For the most part, I can't say I find dying an appealing element in adventure games. Many of my favourites, particularly Grim Fandango and Monkey Island 2 , manage to create immersive and sometimes frightening scences without resorting to death, and it doesn't detract from the games. I hate adventure games where death is around every corner (which may explain why the sierra sets I brought a couple of years ago have not had much gameplay time). However, in more 'realistic' games like Gabriel Knight and Broken Sword, occasional scenarios where death is an option do make the games more believable, and, as long as it is logical, results in a poor choice by the player, and does not occur too frequently, I don't mind it.
