No need to argue. Ugliness lies in the eye of the beholder.
Personally I strongly dislike bad photoshop remakes/splices of vastly superior artworks, and this is what this box art represents to me.

I think it's more in comparison to the original rather than bad in its own right.
The cannibals are more effective as spooky silhouettes. The expressions on the faces are more realistic . The monkey looks like a real monkey rather than a cartoonish disneyfied version. Plus, you know, cool skull which has been replaced by a slightly plastiicine looking Le Chuck in the new version. But worst of all, why does new Guybrush have stubble? It's a recurring joke in the first game that he is completely incapable of growing any sort of facial hair. The new version makes him look like the sort of action hero Brendan Fraser plays.

As much as I love the Special Editions for Monkey Island, the new box art is inferior to the originals! Steve Purcell's work is simply great and very detailed.

Ha ha! Good point. It's almost as if the person who designed the cover hadn't played the game. (Which probably isn't that unusual, but it'd be nice if someone on the team who had played it pointed it out...)

Hold up, wait a minute - The LucasArts Monkey Island games are being remastered and released as a retail title for the PS3?
Are you sure they didn't cancel this at the last minute as per usual? Damn, I regret not hearing about this sooner. |

I wouldn't call this a bad cover because it pulls it directly from the end of the play, so I get what they were going for, but I believe The return of the Phantom could have looked much better. In a time when box art was key, and such an interesting character to build off of it could have been great.

So that's a worst-but-not-so-bad-just-could-have-been-better box art disappointment entry?

The incredibly lame English relaese cover for SF: Tunguska. If you wouldn't know any better you'd say it's a horror game. Just awful imo. |

I must say, some of the covers people have nominated easily aren't the worst of the bunch. Sure, Tunguska looks like a different genre, but it still looks very professional. I like the Forever Worlds front cover. It's beautiful. If I'd not read reviews before hand I'd have bought it buy now. |

If we are voting I'll throw mine towards that "Mystery OF The Druids" dross just now.
