There are also some areas where you will get injured, although not die. You will find medical kits, and ways to patch yourself up.
Injuries in an adventure game? That's interesting to say the least. It's also difficult to implement, imo, if there's no real action element.

Can you discuss the impact of injuries without spoiling anything? If there are little to no consequences to "staying injured" then it's a pointless addition, and it's even tedious if "finding a medkit to heal yourself" is just an artificial way to lengthen the game...
But if somehow injuries matter storywise, now THAT would be intriguing...

i dont want to get too heavily into some of the more awesome game mechanics, but....

There are 2 types of Injuries currently in STASIS. 1 kind is an escape from a 'near death' experience. It doesn't slow you down at all, but you have a limited amount of these before you WILL die. For example, sticking your finger in an electrical outlet will cause damage. These will either recharge over time, or require some form of medical treatment to get 'back' to 100%.
The system is currently set up, but needs tweaking, which will happen with the beta testing period. There are certain degrees of injury that will negate these smaller injuries (climbing into a meat grinder for example).

The second type is the story specific ones. I don't want to give too much away, but lets just say John is going to be HURT. A LOT. He is going to go through MAJOR physical trauma in the game. You know that scene in The Dig, where you have to lop off a hand? Yeah... that's got nothing on poor Maracheck.

Wow, that sounds awesome! Not to mention innovative! Looking forward to it...

I'll be very interested to see how the injury/pain mechanics of the game work as well. I've had only one niggling doubt about the game while looking at all of these fabulous screen shots, and that is, the game has such a pervasive atmosphere of danger to it, I was beginning to suspect it would be a survival horror game with a lot of deaths, like Half-Life, which I can't seem to get through without nausea, or Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, which I'm trapped in and figuring I'll have to start over.

That said, the screenshots are fantastic. I'm really looking forward to playing this game... but then, I think I've already said that a few times.

I also don't enjoy dying in games, but in a survival horror, I think its really important to have the thought of death hanging over you. But like I said, you WILL be able to play through the game without dying if you are a careful player. My ideal would be for people to get through the story without interruptions.
I've also tried to make death as 'effortless' as possible, with the autosave/autoload feature. So even if you play, and forget to save, you aren't gong to have to do a ton of backtracking. In fact, you could load up the game, and play through in 1 sitting without ever having to exit to a menu.

You've clearly given it a lot of thought, and it shows.

Ha-no. I meant that if you went on an energy drink infused night of gaming, you could finish it without dying.
I did Modern Warfare 3 in 8 hours straight, and Deadspace 2 in 12 hours straight. yeah...my girlfriend loved that.
