I thought this was an old Broderbund game, perhaps the progenitor of Cats, Dogs and The Sims type games, but searching isn't turning it up. It came out about the time of Myst on a floppy, of course.

It takes place in the living room of your house. You are a dog owner and must tend to the little rascal's every need - food, water, playtime. I don't think you could neglect him severely, but there was a timer for all his activities. The title was misleading, indicating that it was a virtual world but it's actually limited to keeping the dog.
