I found a sealed Realms of the Haunting game today for $3. Is it worth playing?

There is lots of action in it, but it has plenty of puzzles and a great story.

It's epic. A fantastic game, and lengthy from what I remember.

Interesting mix of genres - FPS/fmv/adventure/puzzles.

The graphics is like the original doom so the "3D" is a bit primitive by today's standards.

I looked it up. I'll be playing this one I think.

Now comes the question...will I allow myself to open a sealed game such as this?

The thing is, all sealed realms of the haunting boxes are programmed to self destruct if not played by the 13th year after it's release. So that would be.. well, this year.

now THAT is good DRM :D

More likely accumulate dust. :)

It's a very good game, but I don't think it's considered such a classic that collectors will ever kill themselves over it. From what I remember ROTH release wasn't a memorable enough media event to create dozens of excited, nostalgic gamers - I think it even flopped in the end.

It's not illegal if you own an original copy and do not spread it.

I loved this game. A lot. I have a second sealed boxed copy (for a spare), although even after all this time, I don't think it's worth much.

It's a very long game. I never did finish it. I got to chapter 16 out of 20. Anyone who hasn't played it really missed out. Very atmospheric, and a great story. Really imaginative level designs. Felt like I was really there. Great memories!

It's (arguably) not immoral, but whether is legal or not depends on where he lives, I recon. If I'm not mistaken it's legal to make a backup copy of something you own but it's illegal to accept (buy/download/etc) an illegal copy in my country. But personally I don't see anything wrong with that.

With the legality situation being what it is, advising people to download an illegal version is not supported on these forums, even if morally there isn't an issue.

Perhaps I will pop it open and give it a spin then.

My apoligies then. I thought it was legal according to the law that if you own an original copy it's no issue.

If it makes you feel any better, it's legal to do that where I live.
