Unbelievable!
Gog continue to go from strength to strength. I don't know who they blackmailed at Activision to get them to pay any attention at all to the Sierra back catalogue but long may it continue! |

That's excellent news. I've played GK1 and GK3, but I've never bothered to get GK2 to work. Silly me.
I notice GOG declares that their games are compatible with Vista.. I wonder, will they be compatible with Win 7? Also, I've seen the video on the GOG website, were the horizontal lines present on the original FMVs? Or are they the result of some weird deinterlacing filter for the GOG version? |

Hehe great. Thanks
It's ok. If they're supposed to be there, I have no problem with them. |

Oh yes! My copy mysteriously stopped working, so now I can join back in! Although I'm cheap and don't even want to pay $6. I'm hoping they come out with the 3rd one, since I haven't played that one yet.

Regarding the horizontal lines; they can be removed with a patch. I don't know if it works with the GoG version, though.
The name of the patch is probably "gk2pat" (at least I can't find other BK2 patches on my pc). Should be easy to Google. |

It is also worth noting that, based on a thread on their forum, it seems GOG chose to not concatenate the CDs, but decided to use DOSBox's disc image swapping abilities to mount downloaded images of the CDs. |

To quote a Talib Kweli song: Holy Moly!
I really didn't expect them to do this, at least so soon. Of course I'll be so darn busy I'm not sure I'll be able to download this (and GK1 too, although I have played it) anytime soon (especially to be able to join the GK2 playthrough since that requires - well. the playing of it too), but then I did just finish ME2 on sunday and I'll probably have to move certain other games in the queue a bit back to make room for this next. What a year (and especially time) for AGs, if even most of what is to be expected still happens (and what a time for Jane Jensen fans!). |

I've had a chance to take a look at the GOG GK2 and found the reasons that it has some problems. They started with the Endroz installer, but since that is a Windows installer, they hacked in the DOS files to allow them to use DOSBox. In the process they dumped the patch files from the CD into the base of the game's folder. This makes the game use the older patches instead of the updated patches, so the No-Interlace patch is not being loaded.
The game is not quite configured properly and even though they are using DOSBox 0.73, the config file is from 0.72. Not only is the config file dated, they are using the full dosbox.conf, when they only need to have what settings are different from the defaults. This forces some incompatible settings and is the cause of the sound problems. That said, it is not that hard to fix these things and if you don't already own it, it is a great opportunity to get this classic. |

So are these big issues, and how would you go about fixing them?

Even though it is a thread about the subtitle patch, the fix is here:

Fantastic news about GK2 on GOG. That's twice a Gabriel Knight game has become available on GOG around the time of a Community Playthrough.

Can these GOG versions be archived onto CD/DVD for the future? i know they're DRM free but is there any weird activation process that makes this a one time, digital-only title?
