Most Anticipated Indie Adventures

Okay so there seems to be a lot of indie adventures in development with what looks like great potential. Which ones are you most looking forward to?

Here's mine;

Rise of the Hidden Sun

Been waiting for this for ages, seeing this game actually got me back into playing adventure games about 2 years ago.

Resonance

Usually I'm not a fan of pixel art but this game just looks amazing, the attention to detail and animation will make it great to play imo.

I don't know too much about this game but the art looks really good and the story is appealing.

Shades of Violet

Although I'm not a huge fan of the high saturated graphics I think this game will be very fun to play as the game-play is sounding like it could be quite original.

Frantic Franko

This game looks like it'll be a good laugh and the fact that smell and chop with an axe is in the verb coin makes it interesting.

Butterfly

Visually it looks amazing.

Necronauts

Really cannot wait for this, the story sounds very fun.

I'm sure there's more but I can't think right now.

The Indie I'm dying to play more than anything else is Ben Jordan Case 8: Relics of the Past The very last BJ installment. Being a major fan of the series I hardly can't wait to find out how it ends. Be sure to replay this one as many times as possible to get all the endings. (there are 4 in totall)

Oh yeah I played a few Ben Jordans, I find the earlier ones not so good but the latest ones are great.

I'm right with you on the last installment of the Ben Jordan games.

Also can't wait for the next installment of the Barn Runner series, honestly the funniest games I have ever played, whether Indie or commercial!

If anyone is unaware of these games then you must check them out - they are all free - (although note that the first couple of Ben Jordan games aren't up to the standard of the rest). The introduction to the second part of the first Barn Runner game had me literally crying with laughter the first time I saw it!

Oh no definitely not! I'd advise for anyone to start with Case 3. That's the first good installment and man, just how good that one is! The other ones are (this may be a bit harsh but that's truly how I felt about them) absymal! After the first two I actually considered not playing another one. Am I glad I didn't follow up on that thought!:D

Seems you're talking more about freeware games rather than indie (which can be commercial ventures too), so I've moved it to the underground forum.

If I'm wrong, we can always move it back again :)

I was looking forward to The Silver Lining, as it looked like the most professional game to be independently produced, but I'm not sure what's going on with it now. I hope, after all the work that's gone into it, that it will see the light of day, and soon!

Han Solo Adventures looks cool:

Let's hope that George Lucas lawyers don't put a stop to the game. :shifty:

I'm waiting for Ben Jordan too.The previous game ends with an abrupt cliffhanger ending...However,i'm sure the next chapter will be a really good game and will be worth the wait.

Amen to that

Well, already the OP mentioned both freeware and commercial games. Resonance and Shades of Violet are commercial indie games. Hopefully, you won't split the thread in two because of that. ;)

But back to the topic... I'm looking forward to most of these too (And thanks for the Frantic Franko plug, JJ!), but I would add the future Blackwell and Ben & Dan installments and The Cat Lady by the creator of Downfall.

I'm definitely looking forward to Mapoco Mountain and lots of first-time games by people I know to have lots of great ideas, but I need to at least play their demos to be able to say which seem the most promising to me.

Oh yeah! Can't believe I forgot all about that one. Really looking forward to it. Convergence was great!

Okay fair enough, I put it in adventure because not all the games will be freeware.

J.H 01-16-2010 12:29 PM

Oh yeah I forgot Butterfly and Necrnauts, added them to the 1st post.

Btw I think 5 of these games are going to be released commercially so maybe it should be in adventure?

Of course! How could I forget.

Phod 01-16-2010 04:16 PM

man, those look great.. any rundown of the expected release dates on those?

J.H 01-16-2010 04:50 PM

Not sure to be honest mate. Rise of the Hidden Sun could be a very long time away in reality although I really hope not. I think Resonance is due for release this year but not sure about the rest.

Ascovel 01-16-2010 05:32 PM

Planned release dates for indie games are notoriously unreliable :)

Anyway, Frantic Franko Volume 1 I would currently schedule for April. Volume 2 for December.

Also, I released a WIP for the game to get feedback. You can check it out here. I updated it with many things a week ago. Now it has even some voiceovers.

Just keep in mind this "demo" starts in the middle of the game and the interface is currently a bit hardcore (still working on it).

MoonBird 01-17-2010 06:32 AM

I cannot believe that nobody has said UIG! :9

Until I'm Gone will definitely be one to play when it finally comes out. I have never seen better graphics in a freeware game! :)
