Dreamfall episodes?
Has anyone heard anything about these? Last I knew, after the completion of TLJ: Dreamfall Ragnar Tornquist said he intended to continue the adventure via episodic gaming, but I haven't seen/heard anything since.
So, any news? Of course, do you think there's any chance that Telltale could get the job? They are pretty much the only name in episodic adventure gaming right now, and they're a proven success. SWB

I mentioned that in my Dreamfall vs Overclocked thread. Yes, Tornquist has already written the material for "Dreamfall Chapters", an episodic series presumably handling background stories for minor characters and locations and such. Then he's also written "The Longest Journey 2", the real sequel packed with everything everyone's craving for.
However, they're currently working on a different project altogether. Just read his blog: http://ragnartornquist.com/?p=578#more-578 I've actually thought about Telltale myself, but I think those guys will now be more interested in developing original work than picking up an old brand. Sure, well known names like Sam & Max and Monkey Island are popular and will almost guarantee sales, but there's also something called pride in giving "birth" to your own creations.

I would hate to see TellTale do the episodes. They may be geniuses when it comes to cartoony comedy games, but are pretty much untested as far as serious, adult-themed games are concerned. Funcom could likely do a better job on their own.

Couldn't agree more! That's one reason I wouldn't want them to do a sequel to Loom, as discussed in another thread.

I do believe Telltale is behind the CSI games. At least, that's what I get from Wikipedia, which states that while UBIsoft is the publisher, Telltale is the developer.
Haven't played any of them, but I would assume they'd fit the serious genre you're talking about. I also don't get the idea that Telltale is interested in selling any new proprieties just yet, and personally I hope they don't go down that route. The whole point of episodic gaming is something that you can just jump into & enjoy. While I'm sure I might enjoy something that Telltale would produce, I'm not sure everyone would, for the moment, I think the proprietary stuff is the safer route. As for having Telltale produce Dreamfall episodes, well yeah Funcom might not sell them the rights. But Telltale does have a proven record of producing quality mini-adventures, in a relatively short development time. If Funcom is interested in making money on the project in short order, then Telltale is a way to go. If they want to produce it themselves, they'll have to develop the method to distribute, modify the engine to make the game work episodically & hope fans of Dreamfall & TLJ remember them enough to make the episodic game worthwhile. Going with Telltale would reduce development costs & they'd be able to split some of the bills with TT. Additionally, Telltale has current customers & something of a fanbase that frequently buys from them. Personally, I'd love it if Funcom & Telltale could work something out. I think TT could very well work with the script already written (apparently), and they'd be able to produce a quality piece of work. Plus, it'd mean we'd get the game quicker than another few years down the road (if ever). SWB

I don't think involving telltale would be such a good idea, Tornquist has to have complete control over the project.
Plus, I think the graphics on dreamfall are way better than anything telltale has done, even if it's a much older game.

They did, 3 Dimensions of Murder was also a telltale product. Of course, they've got another in the pipeline as well.
