Default What if Telltale games did Larry?

Me and my older brother were talking about this about last night, well we were discussing about Tales of Monkey Island. And I sorta thought what would happen if Telltale games made an episodic series of Leisure Suit Larry. The chances of this are not likely but however one of my friends talked with Al lowe about it and he thought it was a good idea.

So what do u think? Should Telltale bring back larry laffer in graphic adventure gaming?, I will like to see this happen...IF LOWE RETURNS.

Even if Telltale and Lowe teamed up and created games that fell short of the originals (LSL 1-3 and 5-7), I'm sure what they could come up with would be light years beyond MCL and BOB.

I'd be for it. A different girl per episode, perhaps? That seemed to work with the formula presented in 5-7.

You would want to pick a licence that would attract an audience.

Unfortunatly due to the last couple of "games" that were released (Box office Larry esp). I think it would actually repel buyers just because it had Larry in the title.

I'd be up for it too, indeed. But only if Al Lowe himself is involved. Actually, the other day I was listening to a host of interviews with Mr. Lowe (just search his name on YouTube, there are many) and he's such a wonderful and kind human being.

Lucien21 has a good point, about the franchise being cheapened by the last couple of abominations with Larry as part of the title. I'm not sure how a publisher at this point would win back an adventure game audience.
Maybe it's time for Sam Suede to step up?

Hm. Sounds like a swell idea, especially since I think that the episodic model would fit very well for a Larry game.

Actually there is a classic adventure game in Larry style called Little Dickie coming on iPhone soon.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. Larry would be exactly the right franchise with this new episode style that's so "hip".

I personally don't like the episode trend so much since I think they really charge too much per episode, a whole season should not be much more than a "normal" game price.

And I'm not exactly a Larry fan either but I'd still be interested in playing Larry episodes for the fun. The humour is nice and twisted while I think a whole long game doesn't hold up so beautifully when the plot is just getting into someone's knickers. I've played all the Larrys from 1 to 7 but I was a kid then really, not horribly interested in another long Larry game as I long for grander plots now.

This is the case of Larry 5 - 7, but the original trilogy had far more complex plot than that. And that's why I like it more

I liked 2 and 3 the most for their complex plots -- especially 2, which was kinda James Bond-esque -- but I always thought 1 had the least amount of plot for the three and was the most focused on getting into a girl's pants.

However, 5 was very well thought out. It managed to balance the two elements -- skirt chasing (for Larry), and a zany plot (for Patti) that lampooned the period's pop culture -- from conservative American politics of George H.W. Bush versus the surge of in-home pornography and rise of Larry Flynt, to the raunchy lyrics of hip hop groups such as 2 Live Crew (2 Live 2 Screw -- ha!). It managed to appeal both to the seasoned adventure gamers and to those who just bought the original games for the lewd subject matter.

I think the episodinc format would suit that game much better than Sam and Max and the Monkey Island games. Larry has good burst value where I would much rather be involved in a longer story from the others.

I don't know what to think really. I'd love to see another Larry, as long as Al Lowe is involved, but I just don't like episodic format. Apart from being a huge hard-copy-huge-box fan (yeah I know, all episodes will be released hard-copy afterwards, but that will take more time ) I have the idea that episodes do not have enough time for a strong plot to develop (not that I have experiences with episodic games, since as of yet I am too prejudiced to play them, but anyways...)

But to quit my ramblings, if it would mean another Larry, then yes, I'd definately would like it, even if it were episodic. Would prefer a full-length game though.

It would be G-rated and not worth playing. Sort of like that porn that you can buy in hotels, where they don't show the "good stuff".

Why isn't anyone asking the BIG question? How much would it cost to license the LSL franchise from Vivendi? And, would the potential return on investment make it worthwhile for Telltale to even pursue it?

The same conversation is going on in the "Sequel" thread. Everyone wants a Gabriel Knight 4/5/6/x sequel authored by Jane Jensen. Except that Vivendi owns the rights to everything GK. And JJ is still trying to bring Grey Matter to market three years after the project was announced, and is also involved with her Oberon Games projects.

Josh Mandel and I looked at licensing the Freddy Pharkus name many years ago. It wasn't going to happen.

I see no reason to think that Vivendi has changed its mind regarding licensing of any of its adventure game brands.

Prove me wrong, but I think this is both a dead issue and a dead thread.

Activision, now, but point taken.

I have no doubt that what you say is true, although I see no evidence of the Sierra catalog on the Activision website. I've stopped trying to figure out who owns what.

That's because Activision Blizzard isn't supporting that catalogue anymore.

Personally speaking, I can only hope that AB will be convinced by something to invest once again in the adventure market. Maybe never. Maybe in five years. I don't know, but I hope

I keep the faith too, because no one can say what could happen in the future, especially in this business. Look at what's happening at LucasArts; a new president, a new vision, and a renewed interest in their original intellectual properties.

Who knows what's in store for the old Sierra series? Maybe we'll never see them again, or maybe a big announcement is even closer than we think.

Sam & Max and Monkey Island were also considered dead at some point. Besides, saying this thread's subject is a dead issue doesn't add anything interesting or meaningful to the discussion. If Leisure Suit Larry fans want to speculate, then let them do so.
