Adventure Games with a 'DW Noir' Style Notebook
I don't know how many of you played DW Noir, but it was one of the more innovative adventure games I ever played.
I'm specifically talking about the Notebook used by Lewton, the games protagonist. While you still took any small object you could get your hands on, hammers, other tools, matchbooks etc, more of the game was about finding clues which Lewtown would note down in much the same way. IE; you could combine clues with other clues, things around the screen or NPCs as you would have done with sewer keys or monkeys and what have you from other games. I love(d) it. It kind of forced the clues to become logical but didn't reduce the game's difficulty and it made you feel more involved in the story than even a 'regular' adventure game (and you have to admit, adventures probably involve the player more than any other genre already). As I'm sure a lot of you have surmised already is this; are there any other games with a similar clue system (not necessarily related to anything the character has in his possession, like a notebook or a PDA, it could be something only accessible to that player and not the character)? If not... then that sucks [If there's a more relevant forum for a post such as this on the site please tell me] |

I loved it too, but haven't seen anything like it.

There's The Shivah, whose system was in fact inspired by DWN, if I'm remembering things correctly.

I shall look into that But I'd be a little worried if that turned out to be the only one....

Hmmm..."The Blackwell Legacy" and "Blackwell Unbound" use the same system. The character takes notes and combines clues to help the player unravel the mystery...Actually,both games and "The Shivah" that Squinky suggested are from the same company,Wadjet Eye Games.

I haven't played this game, but from the comments, I'm wondering if the game, "Darkness Within" would fit the bill. He had a "think" option, where he combined different ideas. I liked the idea, but thought it was poorly executed.

I believe that Diamonds in the Rough has a similar interface, though it looks like a notice board.
Oh, and Belief and Betrayal too. |
