Which company was the 3rd best adventure game creators?

Everyone can agree that the 1st and 2nd rank belong to Sierra and Lucasarts for having made countless high quality adventure games. But who was the 3rd best in the 90's?

tastebud 06-16-2009 09:46 PM

hmmm, there may be others, but the only one i can think of right now is westwood with its kyrandia series.

Ugignadl 06-17-2009 01:12 AM

Is Virgin not counted? Or are they technically publishers?

Gabe 06-17-2009 01:58 AM

That's Microids and not among your dated poll options.

Keregioz 06-17-2009 02:24 AM

I think he means back when sierra and lucas arts were active in the adventure genre...did microids exist then?

If that's not the case then I would definitely vote for telltale and house of tales.

Ugignadl 06-17-2009 02:24 AM

Hey, it's not MY poll!

I believe Gabe was replying to the original poster.

Where's LEGEND, with the Spellcasting series, Gateway, Homeworld, Deathgate, Timequest, Shannara, Mission Critical, and more?

AndreaDraco83 06-17-2009 05:27 AM

I have no doubt: Access Software! :)

Fien 06-17-2009 06:13 AM

I agree, LEGEND should be included in the poll!

PS: LucasArts yes, but Sierra first/second place? No way! IMO, IMO, IMO. :)

Guyper 06-17-2009 07:16 AM

Sorry, I completely forgot about "Legend". And I should have included "Divide by Zero" as well for Innocent Until Caught, Guilty, The Gene Machine and The Orion Conspiracy. Maybe some mod could help me edit the poll, would appreciate it

And yes, Sierra does deserve to be in the top 2 :P

Brøderbund must be top of this list too.(In the 1st Degree, The Last Express,Myst,Riven,The Journeyman Project Trilogy,The Manhole. The Mask of the Sun..)

How do we differentiate designer/publisher (ie, CyanWorlds made Myst and Riven)? If we don't then I say between Myst and Journeyman and Last Express, Broderbund is the BEST.

ozzie 06-17-2009 02:02 PM

I vote for Legend!
Wait, I can't....well, then I won't! ;-)

JackVanian 06-17-2009 03:59 PM

Actually Access Software is more than my personal #3 but since the other two spots are automatically occupied in this survey, i´ll go with Access Software. :)

Ariel Type 06-17-2009 07:26 PM

The fourth, you ment? Since there's no Legend in the poll

Fantasysci5 06-17-2009 08:56 PM

Oh, man! If it's included, Broderbund most definetely!

tastebud 06-17-2009 09:00 PM

personally i think Revolution is overrated in this thread. Judging by what is listed, i still stick with Westwood. Revolution got big with Broken Sword and that was released in 1996, arguably already out of the heydays of adventures this thread was referring to. that's my opinion at least.

crazyindian 06-17-2009 09:50 PM

Definitely Access. The Tex Murphy games undoubtedly deserve a high place in Adventure Game history :D.

doron 06-17-2009 11:41 PM

Oh my god, so many great companies from that amazing era.
I was torn between Microprose, Revolution and infogrames but went with Microprose since the 3 games mentioned in the survey are all in my top 20.
I totally agree that Legend should have been in this survey, but another company who is sorely missing is Adventure soft. I know they didn't make a lot of games but the first 2 Simons and feeble files are also in my top 20.
