Explode the Universe!

I'll do a top five too.
5.Xanthia She had a nice, dry wit, brave, likable. The game, however, I hated. 4. Guybrush Threepwood Sweet, funny, nerdy, romantic, likable. 3.Robert Foster A tough guy in a teddy bear sweater... what's not to love? 2. Robert Cath How could I not? He daring, he's intelligent, he's brave, he's witty, he's got a great voice, and he's got style. He almost comes first, but that spot belongs to... 1. Manny Calavera Compassionate guy in a dead end job (no pun intended ), moral, kind, funny. He's awesome. It's kind of sad that I don't have more women on my list, but I guess there just haven't been a lot of great female characters in the games I've played. |

woops not sure how to do the quote thingy.
anyway here's my list #10 ben from full throtlle- as tough as they come. #9 phoenix wright from the ace attorney games- poor unlucky nick, he might be a little slow somtimes on catching up and he dosen't know squat about the law but he's got a heart full faith. #8 lewton from discworld noir- tough, dark, sarcastic, witty, what's not to like? #7 guybrush threepwood from monkey island games (is there any other?)- the most clumsy and the nicest pirate in the caribeen. #6 jake stonebender from callahan crosstime saloon- the folk singer who's motto in life is: take it easy, life is crazy but there is always lady macbeth, friends and lots of beer. #5 atrus from myst- such a good and sad creator. ok, i know he ain't playable but he is more than secondary charcter and what other main character are there in myst. #4 rincewind from discworld 1&2- funny, witty, cynical, selfish, and the casting of eric idle was briliant, no voice could fit him more perfectly. #3 klayman from the neverhood- cute and funny without saying a word. full of kindness curiosity and child-like wonder. #2 many calavera from grim fandango- a dark, dramatic charcter with stile and some great lines. "love? love is for the living, sal." #1 gabriel knight -definitly my all time favorite. such a deep and round anti hero, and so many intersting qualities: a writer, bookshop owner, skirt chasing, selfish, cynical, manipulative... fantastic. there's a reason he usualy become friends with the bad guys. |

Use the quote button for one quote. If you want to quote several posts then use the button immediately to the right of that one for all the ones you want to quote (it should light up) and then hit the quote button for one of them when you're all set.
If you edit a quote to avoid quoting the whole post be sure to leave in the [] sections at either end. The start contains "QUOTE=" followed by the name of the poster and a number identifying the post. This is the part that, with the square brackets, tells the forum a quote is starting and what to put for the "Originally Posted by" info. The end contains "/quote" which, with the square brackets, tells the forums the quote ends here.

Aww, thanks!!!
I'm not sure if I can do 10. Most of the games I love to play are 1st person. I love your idea of doing a Top Ten every other week. PLEASE do one for supporting characters, because those are the ones I really love. 8. Oliver Metcalf from "Blackstone Chronicles" 7. Max from "Sanitarium" 6. King Graham from "Kings Quest 5" 5. The Stranger from "The Myst Series"-I know we know nothing about him, but I love how Atrus refers to 'us' as, "my friend". 4. Parker from "Dark Fall:Lights Out" 3. Zoe from "Dreamfall" 2. April Ryan from "The Longest Journey" 1. Nigel Danvers from "The Lost Crown" Has anyone voted Nigel? I probably voted for people no one else did, besides April. lol Thank you for letting me vote, even though I probably didn't make a difference.

A few predictions...
Best male NPC: Von Glower Best puzzle: Le Serpent Rouge Best story: GK3, GK2, GK1 Best story writer: Jane Jensen But all this talk about GK is making me want to replay GK2, and finally see the ending! And yes, Von Glower is awesome. |

I hope you're right, even if I already know that you're right, Fienepien.

Hah Fienepien.. yeah, you're probably right but I think the journey is more important than the destination! There are still a lot of great picks out there!

Oh yes, the journey is everything. The individual lists are more interesting than the compiled top ten. I didn't vote for the "Readers Choice Aggie Awards" for that same reason: everybody already sort of "knows" what the results will be.
Suggestions for a future Top Ten: Best Credits. May The Last Express win! |

Btw Fienepien, next up on my backlog is The Last Express (shockingly I have never gotten through it all). My memory of it is pretty barren (other than the obvious). Any advice as I get started?

I don't have any practical advice for you, Phod. Except that I recommend using the auto-rewind instead of restoring manually. It will take you to a point in time where the game is still winnable. And there are many ways to end the game prematurely. Be prepared to die, get arrested, leave the train, etcetera.
The animations may be disconcerting at first, but you'll get used to them. If you don't know what you're supposed to do or can't put two and two together, allow yourself to be confused, that's part of the fun. Your character Robert Cath doesn't know what the hell he's doing either, he just plays it by ear. Immerse yourself in a great story and enjoy the game! PS: And watch the credits... |

Best credits? Can anything beat "Dreamfall", andthe extra scene we get at the end?!?! lol Or Barrow Hill, where it goes through the town in a slide. YEah, you should do that one! And we can vote in the Aggie awards?!?! Where?!

I haven't played Dreamfall...
But I did play Barrow Hill and loved it. If you want to vote, look at the top of your screen. Adventure Gamers is much more than just the forums. |
