Emerald City Confidential
I remember hearing about this game coming out (and Jack will kill me, but I didn't read the news announcement super closely when he posted it. ).
It's got a very cool story - a noir take-off of the Oz stories and it's a very cool looking game! It's by the same guy who made the Blackwell series of games (Dave Gilbert). I'm definitely going to look into this one as I have always loved the entire Oz series of books by L. Frank Baum. I haven't played the Blackwell games yet either, but that's on my to do list as well. |

I remember Dave telling me about his "Oz Noir" game idea at GDC two years ago, and I'm thrilled to see that it's finally getting made.

Although cartoony games seldom make my heart tick this one draws my attention. I love Noir themes and the story and screen shots looks very promising.

The idea is interesting, to take something otherwise seen as a happy go lucky or at least family friendly license and put a more mature spin to it. Return to Oz might have done it before this game, but the idea of an actual crime happening makes this game seem more interesting. I'm mostly interested in the Cowardly Lion turned Crooked Lawyer (are there any other kinds? ) as well as meeting other known characters.

Funny how this is referred to as a "licence" when one of the reasons for choosing Oz is that Baum's works are now out of copyright. Of course, the Disney stuff is still copyrighted, so Dave has to be careful to avoid treading on their toes...
Having been a beta tester I can tell you the game is great and waaaay bigger than anything Dave's done before. |

Resurrecting this thread because this game recently went gold, (for sale with full voice acting and all that). I really liked The Shivah, even though it was short and ended abruptly, but couldn't get into the Blackwell games because of how annoying I found the heroine's voice. So for anyone who's played the retail version, how is Emerald City Confidential? Worth picking up?

I believe it's available from Feb. 19th.
Check the Dave Gilbert interview here on AG.

I'm looking forward to it myself. I'm also hoping that now that this one is finished it will speed up production of Blackwell Convergence. Played the demo already and it's definitely a smash hit. Plus I got a look at some of the prelim pixels at the end of Blackwell Unbound. I definitely remember a few faces from the previous 2 games.
BTW: An estimated release date of Blackwell Convergence would be much appreciated. |

I liked Blackwell Legacy and Blackwell Unbound very much. I've got this my favourite feeling from this games like I read a very good book but to turn a page I need to guide the main characters by myself)) I've got this feeling only from my favourite adventure games. And can't wait for Emerald City Confidential. I'm sure this game will not disappoint me))
