What's the Secret Files 2 release date?

Hi all. Is Secret Files 2 postponed? In the "Release dates" section it is stated August 2008. It's September and the game is not yet released. I have read in another site that the release date is 31/12/08. What's the truth?

If you're asking about a release in English, none have been announced. It was released in Germany in August, but there's no word yet on when we'll see localized versions.

Then you should change the flag icon in the "Release dates" section since many get confused. Instead of the EU's, you should put Germany's

Well, if I change it to Germany only, it will simply disappear from the calendar altogether as a released game. ;) I'm still trying to get a proper release date from the publisher instead.

Are the publishers so unfriendly not to inform their clients? I really can't understand why they don't specify these things :pan:

Publishers are ridiculously uncooperative when it comes to release dates, particularly international ones. It's partly because they don't know the answers themselves, but it sure doesn't help that they rarely bother answering even when asked. :shifty: And I'm not singling Deep Silver (SF2's publisher) out for this either. It's just one of many.

What do you mean that "they don't know themselves"? If they don't know, who is to know? And why don't they know? Isn't there a "timetable"?

Jackal 09-04-2008 11:10 AM

Most original publishers need international partners to take over local distribution and publishing duties. Deep Silver was the worldwide rights holder (I believe) for Secret Files Tunguska, for example, but The Adventure Company actually published it in North America. So until the secondary deals are in place with local distributors, there really IS no plan in place. So no, when asked, they really don't know at that point. And as we've seen, some games never get released in English.

I read somewhere (probably the fusionsphere website) that it would be early Q1 2009. Something about wanting to release simultaneously in all languages and on all systems.

You are right.

We are currently working on an English, Spanish, French and Italian version of "Secret Files 2" and expect a release in early Q1 2009.

Too bad...

Jackal 09-04-2008 03:32 PM

Note that that's the developer saying that. What I said above still applies. Without international publishers to distribute it, the game goes nowhere, even if it's finished. Q1 seems a reasonable target, but even so, you might not want to hold your breath.

I hope everything goes well and the game will be in the shelves in Q1 2009. An ideal new year's gift...to myself

Since the release date is far enough I am thinking to buy the German version from amazon. Does anybody know if English subtitles exist in this version?

dekaneas297 09-15-2008 01:07 AM

No German members?

tastebud 09-15-2008 09:47 AM

No English subtitles were in the demo. I doubt they'll be in till the English release.

You can turn on and off the subtitles (Untertitel) but I have seen no option to change them to English.

Thanks a lot Sandy. :)

I wish I knew the release date. Or even better! I wish I could speak German. I would have played the game since August and I wouldn' t have to wait until the first quarter of 2009 to play it. It is postponed all the time. I hate it when it happens. The teaser was really funny, the one in which it is said, that it was postponed because Max broke his leg.
