Default Know any PS2 NOT fighting/shooting/racing etc. games?

Alright, so I caved in and bought the slim PS2 today. Yay me

But I have never played ANY PS games at all, so I don't know what to look for.

My problem is, that I don't want any fighting, shooting, racing, music or sports games. Is there even anything left then?

Also, I really don't feel like investing in PS2 adventure games, which I already have for PC.
So please - help

I did puchase a few games, but that was only to have something to start with.

Well, the PS2 is RPG heaven, especially since it's backward compatible with PS1 games. So you got all the Final Fantasy games and whatnot. There's also the Metal Gear Solid series, which is hard to miss.

If by fighting game you mean Tekken and such, then ok... if by fighting game you mean "game with fighting in it" that narrows down the options a tad much.

There's Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari... and well, nothing else good that comes to mind. But if *some* fighting is okay, go with: Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Prince of Persia Sands of Time and Okami.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I'll have to look into them

As for fighting, I'd rather not do any, since my reflexes sucks big time, lol
But if the controls etc. consist of just hitting one button, then maybe

In that case I would say avoid Okami, cause fighting is a bigger part there... The other three are a more eclectic mix.

Beyond Good & Evil is also good, but you don't need a PS2 to play that. Sands of Time you definitely want to go with the PS2 version though - the PC port is meh.

Alright thank you so much

Think I found out which ones I want.. for a start:
Beyond Good & Evil, Shadow of Memories and Ico.

Now we'll see if I can handle games like that, lol...
My PS2 should arrive tomorrow and these games at latest start next week.

But please don't stop recommending... let me go crazy over this new toy

PS. I'll wait a little with the Final Fantasy games.. looks a bit too advanced for me right now.

Some other PS2 games worth a look:

The Fatal Frame/Project Zero series (Tecmo): No fighting, just lots of photography.

Glass Rose (Capcom): A PS2-exclusive adventure game, by Another Code/Hotel Dusk producers, Cing. No combat.

Way of the Samurai (Eidos): One of my favorite PS2 games. A significant part of the game is talking to characters, where what you say, and how you say it, can really influence the storyline. The story itself takes place over a three day period, and time passes regardless of your progress. You can choose to get involved in the various events that happen, or keep your distance. There is a healthy chunk of combat involved, though, but most of it is based on balance and stance, rather than confusing button combos. The game was marketed in the west as a beat-em up, but I'm sure whoever bought it expecting such was severely disappointed.

Clock Tower 3 (Capcom): No combat; and quite adventure-like.

Haunting Ground (Capcom): Similar to the above. No combat, as such, but lots of puzzles.

Echo Night - Beyond (Agetec): Sci-fi first-person adventure. A bit slow.

Gregory Horror Show (Capcom): Excellent Japanese adventure game. Definitely recommended.

Under the Skin (Capcom): Your job, as a little alien stranded on earth, is to cause as much panic as you can without being exposed. No combat, per se, although you make use of various zap guns and such. Japanese and underrated.

Personally, I've enjoyed all these games.

Unless you import them directly from Japan they're generally translated, voices and all.

Final Fantasy I think is an acquired taste, or maybe it just has to be your thing.

It isn't mine. Maybe watch some of the retrospectives on Gametrailers to find out if it's yours...

Lotta fighting.

Oh, yes, these are all western releases. Re-recorded voices, translated text, etc.

From Wikipedia and Mobygames:

Fatal Frame

Haunting Ground

Glass Rose

Gregory Horror Show

Under the Skin

Way of the Samurai

Clock Tower 3

Echo Night - Beyond

The availability of these titles will vary, though, depending on who you order them from.

Well, you guys are all great - thanks so much for this

I actually found a new-to-me online shop here in denmark with decent prices and holding all these titles

I've already ordered Clock Tower 3, Under the Skin, Glass Rose and Haunting Ground.
Don't know just when I'll get time to play them all, but I got'em, lol.

OK, there's minimal fighting, but ICO.

Eyetoy should be good to go.

The Buzz! games.

Then there's the Dance Stage or Guitar Hero games.

Those are the only exclusive PS2 games I can think of.

Do snowboarding games like SSX count as sport?

Oooh, Haunting Ground, nice choice! Easily one of my favourite PS2 games, very underrated and quite creepy too. There is a tiny bit of action in it, but its mostly dependent on having to run fast. Learning curve of maybe 15 minutes for even the really uncoordinated.

A great, albeit very Japanese (don't worry, it's been released in English), is Chulip--very quirky little adventure game.

Also, Persona 3 is fantastic and it has some nice life-sim elements that make it stand out among other PS2 JRPGs.

Simple and not complicated games that doesn't involved a lot of fighting etc. May i suggest

Ape Escape 3 (a bit of fighting but the degree of difficulty isn't hard and it's fun)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEsl4B3hNwg

Harvest Moon : Save the homeland (No fighting whatsoever , a relaxing social farming simulation - not quite as boring as it sounds)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI7UmmsAIkc

A lot of fighting but the Kingdom Heart series is great - not just for the crossover between final fantasy & disney universes but also for the huge celebrities voices. Where else can you find Pirates of the carribean Jack Sparrow with Donald & Goofy in a video game ?
