Mozart Upcoming Release uses a very intriguing 2.5D set up
Hi all, the new adventure thriller, Mozart scheduled for release in November 2007 will be delayed, instead it will be released in 2008, by Micro Applications according to the game developers site, GameConsulting Studios and other sources. It uses a very intriging in house engine that they have developed that does interactive matte paintings, and results in a very cool looking 2.5 D game. Their tools and in house developed engine are described on their site here:
http://www.gamecostudios.com/outsourcing.html for other develpers and designes who like me are interested in variations on the full 3D approach. The tool sets include MAGE, a Game Engine including its own script language which allows integration of several different game typologies. It includes the following: • Script Editor • Level Editor • Character Editor • Scenario Editor • Dialog Editor • Interface Editor • Animation Editor they are also using what they call interactive matte painting scenes which I am thinking are multi planar sets that have interactive hot spots and triggers integrated in them, and they look very very nice indeed.... and they also have a Next Gen full 3D in house engine, XC engine that also looks great. I am looking forward to Mozart for a number of reasons, for I love Mozart's music very much and the game looks like a great advance into a new application of the best of both 2D and 3D, an area be approached by several upcoming releases and it promises a lot for the revival of Adventure games in general. the Mozart game site is here: http://www.mozart-lejeu.com/ and it will be released by Micro Application..... Looking forward to this one

Wow! That looks terrific! It reeks of mood! I am generally a much bigger fan of 2.5D as opposed to 3D grpahics for adventure games so this is right up my alley.
