What Video card do you have?
Can I make a little survay here? You tell me, if not I will delete this post. This is to know a little things to start developing a new adventure game this year:
Do you know what video card do you have? Do you know if your video card suport shaders? if yes, what model of shaders? (1, 2, 3 or 4) Do you have plans to buy a new video card in the next 12 months? Do you prefer 2.5D adventure games, 3D games or it is the same to you if the game is good by itself?

Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS - 320MB
Shader model 3 I thinks Do you have plans to buy a new video card in the next 12 months? - Perhaps a second one for our SLI board. Do you prefer 2.5D adventure games, 3D games or it is the same to you if the game is good by itself? - Either I suppose, but wish they would do more 3D ones to try and get it right... do the characters like Half Life... more freedom of movement... puzzles involving physics etc.

Check out this thread as well.
I have a 128 MB ATI Mobility Radeon X600. I'm not sure about the shaders. I got it with my laptop when I bought it in Feb. 2006 so I won't get a new one. I have no 'D' preference for my video games. |

ATI X800 XL All in Wonder - 256mb.
Yes, it supports shaders, no idea what model Prob not. I prefer 2.5D games when it comes to adventure, simply because most 3D games I have played felt like desolate unpopulated, un-detailed worlds. |

1. HIS Radeon 9800 Pro
2. Yes. (2.0) 3. No. I bought this one 3 months ago, second hand as a replacement for a dead GF4-MX440. All in all, no winning lottery ticket, no real upgrade for me. 4. As long as it is good and playable on my rig, I don't care how many dimensions the game uses. Fun and "boggling the mind" is all I care. Cheers... |

hand drawn will always be my favorite until a 3d game with that level of detail is released.

The computer I'm using now is really old and has Nvidia Geforce 4. I don't believe it supports shaders (although I'm not sure). I won't be getting a new video card for this one. I use my dad's computer for newer games and he has a much better video card. Graphics don't really matter to me as long as the story and characters are good.

Nvidia GeForce Go 7300SE.
Shader Model 3.0 (whatever that means). I wasn't planning on getting a new card, although some games don't seem to run with it. I'm not bothered about the dimensions of my games.

NVIDA GeForce FX 5500 (128MB)
I don't know. Not planning to, might though. I have no idea what a so called 2.5D game is, but I probably prefer it over 3D. ( Point & Click is a must though! ) |

I don't mind really, although i do prefer 2.5D. It only bothers me when 3D games like broken sword 4 are sluggish when the spec isn't really that demanding.

-BFG 6800 GT
-3.0 -Probably not since it would require building a whole new system to move from AGP to PCI-E -Doesn't matter if well executed |

Anyways, I have in my desktop an Nvidia GeForce 5600 FX with 256 MB, I have no idea if it supports shades and I have been thinking about buying a new machine in the coming 12 months for the last 3 years. So I guess this year it will really happen... In my MacBook Pro I have an ATI Radeon X1600 with 256 MB memory and I will not replace that machine in the coming years I guess. O, and shades? What are they? And an answer to your last question: I play games that I like; the graphics don't have much to do with that. But I must say that being able to roam around freely in a 3D world is entertaining (Dreamfall, MystOnline). Edit: Melanie found the other thread (thanks Mel!), and my answer in that one is here.
