Default Coktel Vision's Goblins are coming back!!

Yes, yes and yes! No, must be four "yes"s - the wonderful creator of Goblins series, Pierre Gildhodes, who is also an exellent artist, animator, designer, storyteller and the creator of famous "Coktel style", returns with the fourth installment of his own series, Gobliiins 4 (or Goblins 3D, or Goblinoid).
Here is the site (on french, though): http://www.gobliiins4.com/
The game is developed independently by the group of three (!) men, but it looks like it inherited everything the original series are famous for - just watch the trailer: http://www.gobliiins4.com/Extrait.htm
The graphics looks a bit dated, though, but who cares? The game was in production since 2004 and was planned to be out this April. Looks like they are still in search for publisher, but I'm sure it will be out soon. I'm very excited, as I thought the project was dead. But it's alive and is ready to be published on three languages (french, english and german)!

I've never heard of a Goblins 4, and apparently neither has mobygames...

oh, I see now. Woodruff and the Schnibble is called Goblins 4 : Woodruff and the Schnibble. This page claims it is so at least: http://www.vintage-sierra.com/gobs.php

So this new game will be the fifth in the series.

No, Woodruff is a completely different game and story. It was unofficially proclaimed "Goblins 4", because of similar graphic style, but that's where similarities ended. It's not a part of the series.
In Goblinoid the aurthor is planning the return of three main characters from the first installment.

MasterLoo
You might want to consult with the aurthor's site (Pierre Gildhodes is the aurthor of both Goblins and Woodruff)

Gobliins 2 has got to be one of the hardest adventure games I've ever seen in my life.

The odds of this hitting the US is probably nil.

The Goblins series were too weird for me! I've only played Woodruff and although I kinda liked it, I never had the urge to complete it...

I'd sooner complete Myst without a walkthru than Woodruff

Are you sure this isn't a fan game? The graphics looks a little bit amateurish, but I can't read French so....

i used babelfish.altavista.com to translate the page and found an odd excerpt:

"The enigmas are not very difficult, but numerous. A 8 year old child puts between one hour and two hours to arrive at the end of each level."

WTF? This mist be a totally new style of gameplay/puzzles. ANyone who has played Gob1-3 knows that some of those puzzles were heinous (try making a ladybug out of pepper, a cockroach, red paint, and 'happy potion' when you can't combine items yourself)

Elessar - yes, this is the original guys. Here is an excerpt from the creators page:

"Pierre GILHODES is graphic designer since his youth, he started to create video games at Coktel Vision in 1990.
These first creations in the video game, as Co-scenario writer and graphic designer in company of Muriel Tramis, are the first 3 versions of GOBLINS (see in Historique), it was also an author and graphic designer of the play "Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth", Co scenarized with Stephan Fournier.
While working as graphic designer or author of animations on various audio-visual productions, Pierre GILHODES launched out in 2004 in the realization of "GOBLIIINS4", the ĂŞme version in 3d of the series of the GOBLIIINS, GOBLIINS2 and GOBLINS3."

I emailed and asked about a US release.

I only played Goblins 3, but this looks cool. I take it Sierra isn't going to be involved with this one.

Well, me too And judging from the movie that's how it is going to be. Just some written comments, like in Gob 2-3.

The first part was pretty easy. I think I was an 8-year boy when I first played it and it took me less then an hour to pass most of the locations . Again, judging from the demo the gameplay would remain the same.

Definitely not a fan. I think "indie" is more appropriate here.

I played all 3 again recently, and while they can be quite fun and clever at times, it's always difficult to get invested in the one-dimensional stories and characters. For me, Gobliiins has always been more a test of endurance than anything. I like to see how long I can go without getting a horrible headache.

I must say I've never understood the logic behind the Gobl*ns games. To me, they've only been about clicking everywhere until something random happens. A bit like Samorost with would-be-funny-but-get-annoying-fast animations on top.

The third game is probably the only one I really enjoyed, I got stuck in two very early on and saw "Gobliiins" at a friend. Can't blame anybody there, but outragous sequences in which you get to play a little flea-like creature the main character of the game places on the head of a giant to (excerpt from a random internet walkthruuu) let it:

Quote:
Using the toothpick,
quickly get rid of the family of fleas in his beard in this order: Junior Flea,
Chubby Flea, Meme Flea, GeGe Flea, Mama Flea, and Papa Flea. Produce another
tear by pulling the nose hair. Place Bizoo on it to cross the barrier of hair.
are just the kind of thing that made me crack up over and over again. The game's filled with situations like that, something the other two didn't have, as far as I can tell. What kind of drugs did they take to be able to come up with something like that? The pretty unique pixel art made it appear all the more... colourful.

Sierra just served as a publisher that brought some of Coktel's game across the Atlantic, AFAIK.
