I have bought mine from Play.com, meaning that it must be the UK version.
So, can anyone tell me if the UK ver. of Runaway 2 has Starforce or not?

UK version (released Mar 9) does not have Starforce ( Thank Heavens!).

Protection for this version is Tages 5.5.2.1.

It was a TV show in the 80's with music by Brian May.

Or copy protection software that some people get their knickers in a twist about and moan endlessly about how it corrupts minors and summons demons or some such.

Hahahah... nice, Lucien21; I actually didn't know that Brian May tidbit.

Starforce is TERRIBLE copy protection software... and there are legitimate complaints that it corrupts drivers, corrupts registry, can lock the CD bay, etc. Badly programmed, badly implemented, difficult to remove completely. Even the main guy at the company was forced to admit some of the serious bugs it was causing.

It's safe to say that Starforce is the worst copy protection of the last decade or so. But because of it's terrible rep it's been dropped almost entirely from games coming out right now. And I think if you look around there are anti-Starforce programs that will prevent it from installing, or make it easier to remove, etc.

Have a look here.

Let's just keep this thread about what games do or don't have Starforce (if someone asks) and not turn it into a rant for or against Starforce. The only reason I consolidated Tidus' posts was to keep them from being scattered amongst a lot of threads and it would be easier to find if someone had a similar question.

Yeah, with Oblivion they just said screw it with the Copy Protection.

And you know what? Sales have been through the roof. Go figure, you make a good game and you can sell it, even without copy protection.

But we'll always never know if sales would have been more or less if copy protection had been used.
