Install it, change to 16bit colour, run the game as the adminstrator and press Alt+Enter for windowed mode, it's not full screen but it runs fine so it's a workaround for it.

The problem with DN is not just that nobody volunteered to be the "gamemaster", but it's a buggy game. Fairly non-linear too, in spite of the 4 Acts, which is not good for a playthrough.

Is there a digital download edition of Discworld Noir available anywhere? I've checked GOG, DotEmu and Adventure Shop and none of them have it.

It seems like the best thing would be to do AVS now and DN later to give people time to get it working. Also, according to Fien it may require a bit of "planning".

DN won fair and square, but if gamemaster really doesn't show up there's already enough people for AVS.

Btw - Discworld Noir worked PERFECTLY fine when i tried it on XP. I didn't progress far so i could be missing on some bugs that Fien mentions but game starts without troubles. There's only one trick to it - everytime you enter the main menu press F1 BEFORE you do anything else! After that, the game won't crash.

I'd love to see the list of games that you DID finish.

Glad you mentioned the very useful F1, I'd forgotten all about it. But I had a different problem. I'd exhausted all dialogues, options, locations early in Act II and the game refused to move forward. So I consulted a walkthrough and apparently some of the things I'd already done in Act I should have taken place in Act II. Great. I had to replay Act I and do everything by the book. From then on, it went smoothly.

But that sounds more like a game design problem. But it should be easy avoidable in a playthrough with hints from players like yourself who know about this stuff. That's exactly one of the strongest point of playthroughs. Like i would advice anyone to get PLENTY of carrots in "Wanted" before anything else.

So, not sure for Win 7 and Vista, but i can guarantee DN is technically perfectly playable on XP

Whatever you call it, it's a GAMESTOPPING bug.

You think I still remember the exact order in which I did things? After all this time? Sorry.

Fine, but you did warn people. And now everyone should be able at least to have dozen of save games at hand. Not to mention that if someone reaches unwinnable position, another advantage of playthrough is that you'll get an immediate help from someone else.

But enough with the chit-chat Let's see if we can find the gamemaster or not:

I finally got the game working on XP, sence there was no way it could work on Windows 7.

So how are people obtaining copies of the game? As far as I know Discworld Noir isn't available for digital download anywhere. Are you guys going for discs on ebay? I did that a year or so ago.

I think a friend of mine has a copy of this. Will make some inquiries.

Look, everyone, I was joking around a bit. While I would love to lead the playthrough of this amazing game, there is a tiny problem; whispers: I haven't played the whole game yet Name: shuffles.gif

Size: 3.4 KB So I do think that Discworld Noir requires a gamemaster who has indeed finished the whole game (unlike me Name: sigh.gif
Views: 98
Size: 1.5 KB), because of all the technical, as well as in-game design bugs.
