Low res games
Hi all,
Just joined up. Hoping someone can give me some guidance on a slight problem... I'd like to play some decent adventure games using a projector. However, the one I have is UK DVD resolution - 854x480. I'm a bit concerned that many 2D games will be min 800x600 and a rescaled screen means I'll miss vital detail. Maybe 3D adventures would be better? Or maybe I need to chop my projector in for a higher res one. Anyhow, given that I like TLJ type of thing - and I liked Black Mirror - I wondered if anyone might know what games will be playable at my lamentable resolution? Thanks for any help! Jon |

Welcome
Are you talking about projecting the image onto a wall or screen on the wall (just to clarify)? |

Wall...
Hi - thanks for quick reply!
I'm thinking of using a wall. To be honest, that's how I watch my films at the moment - the wall is white painted and gives a clear image. It's more the 480 height which leaves me wondering if I'll end up with unreadable text or invisible clues... Cheers. |

Adventure games aren't exactly known for their high-res graphics Any game made before 1998 or so* is going to be lower than 800x600. There are a lot of good games that fit into this category.
If you're looking for recent games, Al Emmo is 640x400. *Completely made up year. I actually have no idea when 800x600 became the norm. But the point is there are a lot of games out there that are lower than this. |

Rescaling from 800x600 or 640x480 to 854x480 shouldn't cause enough quality loss to be noticeable. Trying to scale down adventure games that use higher resolutions such as 1024x768 and up might cause you issues though. Luckily, I can't think of a single adventure game that requires anything above 800x600.

I think Runaway was a 1024x768 (I could be wrong).

Wouldn't it be best to get some games that run at 854x480? I'd expect that they'd be getting more common, with all the abnormal aspect ratio monitors that are around now.
