Need help: the name of the game

Hi, everybody!

I'm very new to your site, and as long as I haven't found what I wanted by browsing the site's catalog, I'd like to ask for some help from the community.

I'm desperate to recall the name of the game I played somewhere in late 90s or maybe even in 2000 (but unlikely). I have very vague memories of it, but I'll try to write what I remember.

It was an adventure game, with 2D graphics based on photos. You played a male character in a depressed American town inhabited with all kinds of mentally troubled persons. The locations included some homes, an amusement park etc. The atmoshpere was very gloomy and haunting and abandoned, in a way similar to some of the Ray Bradbury works. Unfortunately I hardly remember anything about the plot and what was to be done. I also remember my CD with the game was damaged so I could not get past a certain point, but that's not relevant of course :)

I'd be totally grateful if any of you could give me any hints. I'd love to find and replay the game, but with the information I have this is problematic.

Thanks a lot.

Could it be some variation to Silent Hill? :)

Solid Snake 01-09-2007 06:44 AM

It's either Dark Seed 2 or Harvester.

isnt it Shivers 1 or 2 ?

harvest of souls ? did it had some fmv in it ?

It's apparently a third person view game so there is no way it could be one of the games you mentioned .

For some reason, I'm thinking of Faust. I don't know if that's the one.

Welcome Algizzz. :)

I reread the graphics you mentioned and I'm doubting my choice but I'll leave it anyway. :P

Did the game come in multiple CDs? My guess would also be Harvester and it featured FMV and came in three CDs.

Dark Seed 2 also seem close but it features designs done by H. R Geiger of Ailiens fame that are very distinct.

The first one I thought of was Darkseed 2 also. Not too many games with both house interiors and an amusement park. Algizzz, what was one of the games in the amusement park? Did you play pool at one point? Go into a coffeeshop? One or two clues would cinch it.

Did it have a western theme? Could it be Dust?

I don't remember an amusement park in Dust. Also, the town in Dust didn't remind me of Ray Bradbury.

It's got to be Dark Seed 2. I don't think there was an amusement park in Harvester either.

Well i am 90% sure it is Dark Seed 2, 9% go for Harvester and the remaining 1% for any other game :)
but after reading the description, Dark Seed was what came into my mind as a first guess

I think you are correct!

Yeah, Sanitarium was the first thing that came to mind for me as well.

Tiocfaidh 01-10-2007 03:33 AM

I´m pretty sure it´s DARK SEED 2

This should help ...

Solid Snake 01-10-2007 03:56 AM

It can't be Sanitarium as it doesn't take place in only one town,it starts in an asylum and it's graphics don't look like based on photos. Also I'm pretty sure he would remember the protagonist being in bandages.

Dara100 01-10-2007 09:37 AM

Y'know I'm surprised so many of you have played Darkseed 2 considering the bashing it got from reviewers, although how anyone could not have thought the Geiger renderings alone were worth the price of admission is beyond me. Cool box art too.

Heh, maybe I liked it too because the "mythical town" it takes place in is just over the rise from me.
