Default I actually finished Gilbert Goodmate! What about you?

That was quick, now when I look back on it. I turned off the voices and sound effects though, and the game just got a little more bearable. The music is good, though, and it was wonderful coming to new areas which contained new music, as one could get bored with the tunes in the beginning.

But how many of you have had the nerve to complete it? It's actually not that bad we're all trying to imply, I can say I've played worse.

The story wasn't the best though, and the whole game was based on a mushroom.. A mushroom, people! Except that, I was able to complete the game. I felt like I finally defeated it. I won!

and it took me all those years...

I actually like Gilbert's voice (and most of the other characters). The background artwork is pretty neat, but the character animation is not so good, to put it mildly.

I'd like to play Gilbert Goodmate, but I haven't had much luck finding it for a reasonable price.

Even the PocketPC version isn't cheap (US$19,90)!

I imported it for whatever reason from the UK way back, which cost a pretty penny. The game froze on the transition to the second disc and despite the developer's forums having a multitude of complaints, the only patch they ever released to fix the problem invalidated save-games.

So yeah. Not a fan.

I have the Pocket PC version but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. But that's the case with most of my other games, too, so it's nothing personal against it. Given what most people say about it, though, I don't have high expectations for it. I guess that means I'll probably like it well enough to pass the time, just as long as I don't expect it to be like Monkey Island or something.

Sorry to disagree absolutely!

I thought it was a darned good game (for the time it was produced... six years ago!)

I hated it and never got past the first bit. I have it up for sale at GTZ.

"Give a dog a bad name and hang him" !!

The dialog (written BTW by a Canadian) was brilliant. Some of the cracks were not only funny but also exceedingly witty... which is not so easy to attain !!
N.B. The ONLY possible criticism was that maybe there was too much dialog in some places!

The professional voice acting was amongst the best in any game EVER produced. Quite a bit of it, by very many character-actors was screamingly funny and worthy of an "Oscar" !!

I have the Swedish version. The language and grammar in the Swedish text was driving me mad! (And it's Swedish-made, you know?) Then I probably got stuck too so I took a playing break. That was in September 2005....

Btw, in Sweden it sells for 79 SEK, less than €9.

I know very well that Gibert Goodmate was made in Sweden... as have some other REALLY EXCELLENT games.

However, as I said, the brilliant ORIGINAL dialog was in English (Canadian) and the superb voice actors also were chosen very carefully for their English enunciations (with several magnificent regional accents).

How the many puns and English turns of phrase etc. worked out in Swedish translation I have no idea... to say nothing of the voice acting (if it was dubbed ???).

When Gilbert discovers a small round hole in a vital rowing boat and uses a cork from his inventory to repair it, he exclaims .......... "Gilbert's shameless plug!"
How does that translate into Swedish ???
(It doesn't in the 2 foreign languages that I'm acquainted with).

Were you playing the same game as me?

I have Gilbert Goodmate, but I find it so painfully unfunny, long-winded and hammily acted that I couldn't be bothered to play beyond the first half hour or so. It's not that it does anything offensive, it's just that it thinks that it's far, far, far funnier than it actually is. You are right that the lead dialogue writer was a Canadian, though.

Anyway, I may finish it one day. Maybe not, though.

Just make sure you patch it, unless you enjoy using your second disc as a coaster.

It sits in my drawer.
I have completed it three times.
It is one of the fastest adventure games on market.
And not worth diddly squat.
There were a few challenges though and it was hilarious to play because it was so rubbish but you know.

Rubbish? That's seems to be a bit of an exaggeration. People must have been playing a different Gilbert Goodmate than I. It's not the best game I ever played, but I would recommend it to anyone wanting a nice change and a bit of a laugh. I played the PocketPC version which is very well done & is bug-free.
