charmed23 12-16-2006 04:59 AM

They won't post the finalist on the web until 18 of Dec., but you can watch it live. See the main page? There is a box to the left of "Latest New" and above "Latest and Greatest".Keep clicking the small narrows at the bottom right of the box until you see "And the finalist are... Best and Worst 2006..Gamespt live"
Hope that will help you.

It was also nominated for Best Xbox game of the year.

After a brisk nap 12-16-2006 11:17 AM

Is it on the list for "worst gameplay"?

charmed23 12-16-2006 06:55 PM

:) Thanks, Lucien21, didn't notice that.

Dasilva 12-17-2006 04:48 AM

I'm sure Dreamfall will pick up a few wins.

LeisureSuitedLooney 12-17-2006 05:41 AM

When Gamespot sent out their latest newsletter, where they talked about these awards coming up, they wrote this one part on the Introductory page about how they had trouble scrounging up enough nominations for "Best Adventure". So, out of curiousity, I did a search for adventure games in 2006, on their site. On the first page alone, there were something like 25 results. Hard to believe that translates into barely scrounging up a list, by their standards.

Compared to the thousand shooters, Im sure they would. :P

Gamespot? I thought we all agreed (and by all agreed I mean completely ignored everyone who thought differently) that Gamespot were clueless in regards to Adventure games and as such would no longer be mentioned in this forum. Ever.

I don't think I could name more than 5... does someone know exactly how many FPS have been released this year?

Spiwak 12-17-2006 08:49 PM

By their standards I think only a few were given even decent grades, and I think Dreamfall's 8.0 or whatever decent score it had, would be the top. For Gamespot this year wasn't big for adventures, mainly because they don't seem to grade small games very well.

Orange Brat 12-17-2006 09:40 PM

Gamespot has a history of high scores for the classics, but they have been crapping on newer ones for the most part. Orient Express was the last one I saw and it was a 5.8 I think.

Dasilva 12-18-2006 03:23 AM

Dark Messiah got a 6.8 I think, that was unfair. They said the combat was shallow...

Oblivion has 2 attack forms.
Dark Messiah has 5 attack forms.

I think it deserved a 9.0, that game is so much fun. And this so called obvious plot twist you see coming from the tutorial? I don't see that at all.

grr. :)

charmed23 12-18-2006 03:26 AM

I think they had trouble finding adventure games that have the "quality". Take a look at Gamespy's picks for gamers to vote for PC Adventure Game of the Year 2006, then search them on Gamespot. What will you see? Despite "Dreamfall" (8.1), "Sam & Max Culture Shock" (7.7), the others in Gamespy's list didn't have good score: 5.8 for "Paradise", 6.8 for "Evidence: The Last Ritual", 5.2 for "Keepsake". So how could those game be nominated for "best Adventure Game of the year"? Only 3 adventure games have an above-7 score in 2006 [Dreamfall, Sam & Max, Ankh(7.3)].

jacog 12-18-2006 03:56 AM

wow, 5.8 is quite generous for Paradise.

Oblivion have five attacks for melee if I remember right, left+attack/right+attack/forward+attack/back+attack and just attack.

I never focused on melee for Dark Messiah so I do not know them all. I just remember attack and powerattack.

I also thought the plottwist was fairly obvious. :D

Still, part from the annoying AI where "friends" kept attacking you instead of the monsters, I found the game enjoyable as a linear firstperson shooter but not so much of an rpg.

I do not know what exactly theese guys are looking for when they review an adventuregame. I mean, Ankh have great graphics, great voiceacting, a very fun story, is glitchfree unlike Keepsake and finally deliver just about everything a modern game should deliver, so "7.3"? What were they reviewing exactly? WASD movement?
