OK What Adventure games did you finish?
OK
This is a two part question..What adventure games did you finish and how much did you depend on hints and walkthroughs? Only one for me'.Sanitarium..I used hints for maybe 25% of the puzzles. |

I've finished around 60 games and I think I average on about one to three hints per game.

I've played about 150 PC adventure games. I used hints for most of them and WT for ~3/4 (especially in my early gaming years). I found you get less reliant on WTs the more you play as you gain experience on how to approach challenges. With the games I've played in 2006, I rarely needed a WT.

I've been keeping track of all the commercial adventure games that I've played since 2000, as well as the number of times I sought hints from any source that isn't provided with the game. Here's my list.

I've never counted but I think I've played around 100 games.
There are games that I don't use a walkthrough at all and others that I need to consult one numerous times (or else risk throwing the computer out the window). I guess on average I probably consult a walkthrough 2-3 times per game. |

I have no idea how many adventure games I played (I've been playing them since 1985 or so), but I've used walkthroughs for most of them. Usually consulting them revealed that I overlooked something, or there was some pixel-hunting that you had to do, or something very illogical.

Since most adventure games are designed with hidden objects or clues as a main feature of the gameplay, adventurers will always be faced with the following dilemma. Will it be more fun/rewarding to hunt for whatever I'm missing in the game, or should I save time and frustration by looking it up online? Or the third option: abandon the game.
It's a sucky situation for a gamer to find himself in, but this is the current state of the genre. |

I actually keep a list of games I completed since 1985. It's pretty long.
I play games for the interactive story, not the puzzles, so when it comes to adventuregames with +1 year on their neck I tend to take hints/walkthroughs quickly. |

I rarely use actual walkthroughs, but find that UHS is a better option. It makes me feel less guilty than using a walkthrough

Agreed - UHS is usually pretty good at nudging you in the right direction, without slapping you in the face with a "clue" that actually answers the puzzle.

The good thing about UHS is that it lets you view as little or as much of the solution as you want
