Tacky low budget FMV Horror game.

Awesome low budget FMV horror game!

Well, the game became not so awesome when the storyline went really stupid(okay, you may argue it was stupid from the start) but when it turned out
Spoiler:
he was some alien from another dimension...
it got really bad...

Hm. Inspiration for Fahrenheit? :P

Tiocfaidh 12-01-2006 05:26 AM

What game is that ?

stepurhan 12-01-2006 05:49 AM

Phantasmagoria 2 : A Puzzle of Flesh.

Toefur! Spoiler Tags!

Ooops. My bad, I have a tendency to do that. :frown: :pan: Thanks mod.

I really loved Phantasmagoria II!

The story was a bit of a let down but it was IMHO one of the best FMV adventures I played...

wilco 12-01-2006 10:54 AM

Never played this one and just read the spoiler...

Now I have to play this game! :)

JemyM 12-01-2006 11:23 AM

I was planning Phantasmagoria 1 and 2 for next summer.

QFG 12-01-2006 11:54 AM

I enjoyed Phantasmagoria 1, even though it was somewhat weak and cheesy. It still packed some real scares, for an 15-year-old and his 12-year-old sister. Especially the ending when

Spoiler:
She gets cut in half if you don't make the right move in the endgame

Overall, average. For an early FMV game, not too bad. Plus has that great bathroom easter egg!!

stepurhan 12-01-2006 05:06 PM

I think they both do well for early experiments in FMV gaming. They both have plots that are reasonable for builiding tension (though neither stand up well to close scrutiny) They are the B-move horrors of adventure gaming.

Played properly the final chapter of Phantasmagoria 1 is a real masterpiece of tension
Spoiler:
rushing around the house gathering the items you need to beat the end game whilst trying to stay out of Don's clutches. It is actually possible to grab all the items you need without having any sort of chase sequence. This pretty much relies on you knowing what you are looking for. The last item is the spell book in the bathroom (where the chase sequence starts if you play it properly)

The second game (which the screenshot is from) suffers badly from the non-supernatural endeavours of the early part of the game (more so than the original I'd say) but the payoff, bizarre and unlikely as it is, is fairly well handled.

You played Phantasmagoria when you were 15 with your 12 year old sister?

Captain Blondebeard 12-01-2006 09:54 PM

That scene so reminds me a FMV remake of a GK1 scene.

Tiocfaidh 12-02-2006 03:30 AM

Just took a second look ...

That guy seems to be obsessed with terrestrial globes.

I mean: four of them on one desk ?!?

Come on !!!

You bet! My dad picked it up dirt cheap somewhere back in summer of '95, when it first came out... it had been placed in a remainder bin by mistake.

I was 15, my sister was 12. We played it in our basement in the dark... scary at the time!

Solid Snake 12-02-2006 01:00 PM

Hope you don't start a killing spree or something.

I think I played it around that age as well. Doom 2 even earlier.

Solid Snake 12-02-2006 05:02 PM

With your 12 old year sister?:P
