Which series is better? - Gabriel vs Guybrush

What's it gonna be?

Once A Villain 11-23-2006 12:27 PM

The correct answer is Gabriel Knight. But I'm sure many will be choosing the incorrect answer. :P

Quiet you.

I say MI, it was witty, one of the funniest game sI ever played, one of the ORIGINAL Lucas arts games, as for Gabriel knight I hardly ever played them as for adventure games with real FMV's? Euch. lol

And I love Guybrush.. Original characters and just general piratey fun.. none of that dark stuff you get with GK. ^^

Tobbe 11-23-2006 01:12 PM

I´d go with Monkey Island!

Hammerite 11-23-2006 01:30 PM

MI: I've never played GK

MartyMcFly 11-23-2006 01:52 PM

A more apt comparison would be broken sword and gabriel knight..broken sword 4 me(i also love Monkey Island though, and i am sure there is some enjoyment with mr knight when i can accept him)

Captain Blondebeard 11-23-2006 02:18 PM

Monkey Island in a landslide. You just dont get better than the first 3.

colpet 11-23-2006 02:26 PM

Gabriel Knight, of course. Monkey Island is just too goofy and childish for me.

MdaG 11-23-2006 02:51 PM

Considering I only liked Gabriel Knight 3 (number 1 was ok), I'd have to say Monkey Island, where all games are good in my opinion (yes, even number 4).

RLacey 11-23-2006 03:18 PM

It really depends on the mood I'm in. Both series have some fantastic games in them, but they're not really comparable.

I haven't played Gabriel Knight, but I'm pretty sure I'd go with Monkey Island anyway. I appreciate a good comedy more than the sort of drama that Gabriel Knight is.

It's hard to accomplish now without rehashing old jokes. But I wouldn't say it's in a landslide, there's only been one mediocre game (I'd say it was a decent enough game up to Monkey Kombat - but the game really didn't fit in the whole Monkey Island universe at all).

dave_minall 11-24-2006 12:09 AM

no way!!

Gabriel is blatently better!

MdaG 11-24-2006 12:37 AM

Apart from the music and Gabriel Knight 3 I don't see the beauti of Gabriel Knight series. What is it about them that's so good? After hunting through Ebay and Tradera for a not too costly copy of GK 1 & 2 I was extremely disappointed. Maybe I'd have enjoyed them more had I played them when they retailed? I mean I love the GK theme with supernatural thriller and such... Black Mirror is a favorite as well and in my opinion superior to Gabriel Knight 1 and 2.

Solid Snake 11-24-2006 12:39 AM

Considering your remark I can say that you don't have a taste at all.

Then enlighten me, what's so good about Gabriel Knight 2 for example? It felt like a click fest to me with hardly any interaction at all.

Len Green 11-24-2006 02:07 AM

Apples and Oranges !! :D

MoriartyL 11-24-2006 02:16 AM

I found Gabriel Knight boring, but Monkey Island is endlessly inventive. No contest.

Sonny-Bonds 11-24-2006 04:23 AM

Although I like both very much - Monkey Island will always be first-choice for me.

I grew up on them.
Okay, number 4 was crap, but CMI was a great comeback and 1&2 were fantastic.
