The Madness of Roland is not a game. It's an interactive novel.

Wow, I compiled a list in Excel a couple of days ago and completely forgot about it. Here's the most accurate ranking of my tastes I could come up with, then. I only took into consideration the (originally) commercial games I had completed:
  • Grim Fandango
  • Gabriel Knight
  • Gabriel Knight 3
  • Bad Mojo | Broken Sword | Death Gate | Longest Journey | Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge | Myst III: Exile | Riddle of Master Lu | Sanitarium | Voyage | Zork Grand Inquisitor
  • Loom
  • Shannara
  • Spycraft
  • Tex Murphy: Overseer
  • Toonstruck
  • Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  • Fahrenheit
  • Space Quest 1
  • Secret of Monkey Island
  • Escape from Monkey Island
  • Black Mirror
  • Sherlock Holmes: Case of the Silver Earring
  • Dark Eye
  • Blade Runner
  • Dracula - Resurrection
  • Broken Sword 3
  • Orion Burger
  • Prisoner of Ice
  • Neverhood
  • Gabriel Knight 2
  • Atlantis
  • Curse of Monkey Island
  • Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern
  • Faust
  • Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
  • Beneath a Steel Sky
  • Journeyman Project Turbo
  • Leisure Suit Larry 7
  • Feeble Files
  • Broken Sword 2
  • Moment of Silence | Runaway
  • Atlantis 2 (aka Beyond Atlantis)
  • Ace Ventura
  • King's Quest 1
  • King's Quest 2
  • Leisure Suit Larry 3
  • Książę i Tchórz (aka "Galador: Curse of Prince"/"The Prince and the Coward", but to the best of my knowledge it was only released in Polish and German, so I'm reluctant to refer to it with an English title)
  • Simon the Sorcerer 2
  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
  • Gilbert Goodmate
  • Jack Orlando | Pilgrim | Pompeii | Post Mortem | Torin's Passage
  • Thorgal: Odin's Quest (aka Curse of Atlantis: Thorgal's Quest)
  • Jazz and Faust

2. The longest jouney 1
3. Syberia 2
4. CSI 2
5. Scratches
6. SafeCracker

Well thats what I can remember for now.

I haven't. Is it an adventure game? Wikipedia calls it an RPG.

(If it counts, it currently holds the place as the #1 adventure game ever in this thread, since only you have mentioned it, and you rank it above everything else.)

Well Ign and Gamestats also consider it an RPG and even Mobygames you linked consider it an Action Adventure in short it is apparent that Bioforge is not a "pure" adventure as the other games listed here so don't fret about it.

its interesting, since i never really considered lba an adventure game. its one of my all time favourite games, but more of an action rpg.
i can understand why adventure gamers would want to include it in the adventure genre, since it's so good, but then we should include a whole lot of other games as well, maybe even tombraider.

If that was the case this is a strange way of ranking games. I'd better read your links again to understand this better.

Well, adventures and RPG's have a lot in common.

RPG purists (if they even exist) would probably not count LBA as an RPG either, I think. It lacks certain characteristics that are common in these games. It's not a traditional adventure either, I give you that. But enough to make it to my list, though.
