Default Legend ends? sad day in adventures history

This morning I came across with these sad news. Are the creators of Spellcast series, Gateway, shannara, mission critical, etc. really closing? Maybe they will open a new company thet will focus on original adventures games instead of picking up other licenses that where connected with pure action gameplay.

here is the link:

Ah, that reminds me... I somehow never managed to beat Eric the Unready. My day is saved.

1989 - 2004

Callahan's Crosstime Saloon is one of my favourite wacky adventures, of all time. 'Tis a sad day. Could the poor sales of Unreal II be a reason for its unfortunate demise ?

Sadly, this great company's legend did in fact end looong ago - from an AG player's perspective, that is. It's very disturbing news nevertheless. The most annoying aspect is that - as far as I know - even in its highest, the geniuses from Legend never got enough praise, overshadowed by Sierra and LucasArts. I must get round to finally play both Gateways, BTW.

Gateway was a great game, even more so since you can get it for free.

Even though I have no relationship to Legend (I didn't even know they made CCS), I have to agree that that was a kick-ass game. One of the funniest and most atmospheric comedy games ever.

Very bad news. Another great company that might continue to produce great adventures some day is gone now. Maybe Bob Bates will form another great adventure company... Maybe not... He is a real adventure-addicted genius...

Another one of the greats gone. I've played through almost all of the legend adventure games, and haven't come across a bad one yet. These guys had all of the charm and great games of Sierra and LucasArts, but more often that not seemed like an unloved stepchild.

RIP Legend...and if you haven't played the Gateway series, Eric the Unready, or Time Quest - sweet, sweet Time Quest - then get on the ball! I know I'll be digging out my copy of CCS and mourning for them this weekend...

The two specific scenes I remember immediately when thinking of adventure games, and I mean that whole damn adventure thing from 1982 (my ignition) til right now, are the bunch of RPG players from one of the Spellcasting games and the character selection from Superhero League of Hoboken. Man, I wet my pants. If only those weirdos had done some up-to-date graphic adventure lately... The little evil gnome in my head tells me that would really have kicked ass.

This was sad news to read. But I suppose I was more surprised they lasted this long. I thought of Mission Critical and CCS as their "last hurrah" in many ways. They will be missed.

Ah, that's a shame. These are tough times for game developers. Sometimes I long for the early days, when games were developed in garages instead of 20-level office buildings.

Rest in peace.

Legend is probably the developper that disppointed me the most, by turning to full action games after their brilliant AGs, but still, it's death a sad thing to learn.

Woah. Legend. I had no idea that they were even still around in the first place. Shame they closed down. They did some amazing stuff. I'd say that their text-based games even surpassed Infocom's. They were epic, ambitious, and extremely atmospheric. It's sad that they turned into a publishing house instead of continuing to create their own work. It's the fate of many, it seems.
