Cryo adventure games

I recently saw at a local store a number of budget games that were released by Cryo i think : Atlantis II, Time Machine, Faust, Oddysse (dont know if this is the correct name), frank Herberts Dune, Egypt, etc. Anyone played these games? I remember reading bad reviews when they were released, but in an adventure gamer point of view?
If I remember correctly, Cryo were responsible for classic games like Dune (best book/movie adaptation ever), conspiracy and Lost Eden.

i'm not sure but, i think some of these games are stradigy/rpg

frank herberts dune is an stradigy, it's an adaption of Command and conqure. faust i'm not sure about, if you mean "jazz and faust" then thats an adventure game.

no Jazz and Faust is a different game, this Faust was developed by Arxel Tribe and published by Cryo. And most if not all things from Arxel are best to be avoided...

i think is something like the 7th guest
got it around somewhere and it's not very special in comparison with the new adventures....

Dune 1 was kind of an adventure. Dune 2 was strategy. And wasn't it released way before CnC? I mean, I played it on an Amiga...

Dunno much about the other games, but the reviews on it sounded like big crap.

The very first Dune game was released by Cryo. It was a very unique game, it had a lot of adventure qualities, but you also had to go around training armies to fight the enemy Harkonnens. You would go flying around the planet looking for hidden bases that contained armies or weapons or vehicles. It was a pretty cool game for it's time. Dune II was the strategy game made by Westwood. It is often considered to be the first popular real-time strategy game. It was made before the original Command & Conquer. In fact, C&C exists mainly because of the success of Dune II.

And here was me thinking both Dune1 and Dune2 were released by Westwood, and that Frank Herbert's Dune was a separate game entirely (the latter being rather appauling).

The latter game

From what I can tell, you're usually not too far off from the truth if you remember this simply equivalency: Cryo = Crap. The two words are the same length and share two letters, so it works fairly well. I'm in a particularly pissy mood at the moment; apologies for not being more helpful.

Ariel Type 01-13-2004 03:41 AM

Early Cryo wasn't Crap. It went to it after Aztecs, so all those games mentioned in the first thread are...Crap.

I played Atlantis 2 and Faust and loved them both. Don't miss out on Faust. It has an interesting storyline.

I remeber playind the demo of Atlantis and it looked good, what about Atlatis II and III? And Time Machine and Odissee: The search for Ullisses?

Games about Dune:

Dune : released by Cryo - adventure/strategy (strange mix, but it worked)
Dune 2 : Westwood - realtime strategy
Dune 2000 : remake of dune 2 by westwood - rts
Emperor Batlle for Dune : Westwood again - rts
Frank Herberts Dune - Cryo, released April 2002, action/adventure?

Faust's a good game, worth getting. Most other Cryo games aren't.

AFGNCAAP 01-13-2004 11:46 AM

I've already mentioned in another thread that Faust didn't live up to my expectations, but it had some positive aspects (especially in comparison to other Cryo productions), and I know many people really enjoyed it. There's what you should do IMO: as it's a budget price, buy Faust. In case you like it, you may try (albeit carefully) the others. If you dislike it, I can't imagine you enjoying their weaker games.

If, by any chance, you see the first Atlantis game, I'd recommend it also (again, as far as Cryo games is concerned). The sequel is graphically stunning, that's for sure, but it has thin plot and loads of guess-the-designer's-mind puzzles. I haven't played Atlantis III, but from what I heard of it it's even worse in that field.

The company's "classic" titles you mentioned in your first post are indeed said to be much better than the late ones.

Martian Gothic is from Cryo as well, and it's not that bad, but then i don't own many of their games . .

Tamara 01-13-2004 01:45 PM

Atlantis III is a lot less obtuse than Atlantis II. Martian Gothic is shite, but I wasn't aware it was a Cryo game.

Cryo Adventures

Cryo made quite a few adventure game titles, some good some bad, and many were taken over and/or renamed by DreamCatcher.

Arthur's Knights I and II
Atlantis I (originally Atlantis, the Lost Tale)
Beyond Atlantis (originally Atlantis II)
China, The Forbidden City
Egypt 1156
Egypt II
Faust (renamed Seven Games of the Soul)
Versailles I and II

Ariel Type 01-14-2004 01:39 PM

That's only 1/3 of all its games, or maybe even less.

Gabe 01-15-2004 03:05 AM

I think first person view's like Atlantis,Faust quite interesting but third person
view's like Odyssey,Time Machine etc.. really craps
