I think it's way better if you concentrate on music and sound effects from games. If you're going to use dialogue alone, you might as well just post a quote.

I like the concept of this game. It's a good idea, but don't be too surprised if it bombs - it's simply because it's less immediately accessible than text- or image-based games.

I made a similar quiz once which featured a medley of music from different games. Maybe I'll post it up in General Gaming, if I can find it.

That would be great, Huz.

I could post some myself, if someone would be so kind as to suggest a fast and easy way to put soundfiles up on the net.

KriD, there are several easy ways. First, you should have a few Mb of free webspace from your internet service provider where you can upload files.

Alternatively, try this: http://www.yousendit.com/
Don't worry about filling any email fields in, simply:
Go to number 2,
Browse the file on your pc,
Click sendit (number 3).
Link the upload address

Similar deal with this one : http://www.turboupload.com/
Browse for file,
Enter a meaningful file description,
Tick the terms of service box,
Upload the file.
Link address.

In an effort to revive this thread, and inspired by Huz's in General, I now present The Big Adventure Medley (or some equally cool name). The file features 36 (because it's a fun number) extracts from 36 different adventure games. To make the game more interesting, try to also guess where the track plays in the game.

Most of it is extremely easy, so as not to kill the thread again, with maybe a couple of trickier ones thrown in for good measure. I can't think of a suitable prize (I don't think anyone's interested in an autographed copy of one of my reviews? ), so it's all for... eternal glory! Or something.

And now... THE FILE! [mp3, 10:42, approx. 10 Mb]

Nice work, Kurufinwe

I only counted 34, so the numbers are probably wrong.

Most of these are guesses:

1. GK: The Beast Within - The Opera
2. MI3 - The song on the ship
9. GK3
11. The Moment of Silence
12. Inidana Jones
21. DOTT
26. Discworld Noir - at the fireplace in some Guild (can' remember which)
30. Syberia - in Valadilène I think
33. GK3 (again?)
34. MI2

Most of them is probably wrong, but I'm pretty sure of GK2, MI3, Discworld and Syberia.

Hey, you're good, KriD! Though I thought others would be found quickly too (though maybe you haven't played the games in question).

OK, let's see.

Quote:
1. GK: The Beast Within - The Opera
2. MI3 - The song on the ship
No problem.
Quote:
9. GK3
I guess you mean #10. And no, it's not GK3. (but I see why one could think it is)
Quote:
11. The Moment of Silence
Yup. (but that's #12) That's the music from the game launcher, but it probably also appears elsewhere in the game.
Quote:
12. Inidana Jones
Nope. (I guess you meant #13)
Quote:
21. DOTT
(23) You're right. Where did it play, again?
Quote:
26. Discworld Noir - at the fireplace in some Guild (can' remember which)
(28) Yes. It's the archeologists' guild (quite obvious from the theme ).
Quote:
30. Syberia - in Valadilène I think
(32) Right game, wrong place. Too aggressive for a nice Alpine village.
Quote:
33. GK3 (again?)
(35) Indeed, but where? (trick question)
Quote:
34. MI2
Of course.

So that's 8/36 solved (or semi-solved).

Starting with the obvious ones, #1 is er... "Wagner's" opera from Gabriel Knight 2, and #2 is "A pirate I was meant to be" from The Curse of Monkey Island.

After that, matters get worse, as I a) suck at music quizzes, and b) get lost in the numeration. Am I right in thinking that some extracts are just 1 or 2 seconds long?

5. Neverhood?
Another which sounds familiar is 14(ish). (the one that starts at about 4:00) Prisoner of Ice?
Is the medieval-sounding piece at 4:50 Conquests of the Longbow?
I'll go with Broken Sword 3 ending credits for #34 (the rock song).
About two tunes before it I can hear an extract from Marvin Gaye's beautiful Nature Boy, which was used in Faust, chapter 3.
Could the last one be Monkey Island 2, from the Captain Dread's boat?

Oh, and there was the Indiana Jones tune somewhere in there. From The Last Crusade, I suppose.

EDIT: Oops, KriD beat me to some.

No. I'll leave the question open in case someone knows (that'd be ATMachine's kind of stuff).

You're late.

Anything from 4-5 seconds to 40ish. I don't think there's anything 2 seconds long, though.
Quote:
5. Neverhood?
Definitely (main theme).

(#13) Yes, it really has POI written all over it (I think). Any idea on the location?
Quote:

(#16) Yes, and if you'd taken part in the playthrough, you'd know where exactly.

Sorry, no.

(#31) A memorable part from a memorable game.
Quote:

Shame on you! It's the whistle from the intro and conclusion (where the game gives you lots of suggestions to lead a more interesting life).

That was #28 (Discworld); it's a parody.

OK, so that's 12/36. A third. I'm sure you guys can do better.

Am I right if I'm saying that one of the Tex Murphy games is in there somewhere?
