Are boxes worth anything?
I have a few old game boxes, but I've lost the games. Are the boxes worth anything or should I just throw them away?
Among them are: Curse of the Monkey Island, Command and Conquer, Torment, Mechwarrior 2 - Mercenaries etc. |

I wouldn't pay anything for them, but there may be someone out there nutty enough to do so. Maybe peruse Ebay a little?

If they're in good condition you might be able to sell them to someone whose box has ssen better days. I'd have thought that the resale market beyond that would be limited.

I bought a broken sword box at a flea market for $1 once.
Then again, I thought the game was in it... |

And I thought: "Why would anyone want to buy a broken box? O, wait..."

There are bound to be some gamers out there who really want a good condition box, especially if they're collectors or are getting into collecting games. As stepurhan said, someone might want to replace a tatty box. Perhaps they even lost their box and only have the jewel cases or even just the CD/DVD. Definitely worth a shot at ebay and you could try at just adventure, I know there are several collectors who post there.

If they were rare games, I would say yes but those are fairly common place. Even as a collector, if I did have a damaged or missing box for one of those games, I would likely just buy another copy of the game w/ box rather than just the box alone. Only rare ones would it be worth it. I say toss 'em.

I've always saved them just to have.. From my Kings Quest 2 all the way up till today.. All the boxes and manuals and even the registration cards and stuff. yeah i'm a dork... I saved my nintendo game ones too. I bet though i could probably get a few bucks for some of the old ones (like the black couldren with the map and everything) but i'm a packrat and never will let them go

There's a general shift away from boxes which may render them valuable in ten years when they're a distant speck on the horizon.

Doubt you'll get much for them, but you could likely sell them over at GameTZ, they have a forum where you can advertise the boxes of games you have for sale/trade.
I'm currently looking for the boxes of Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, System Shock 2, Septerra Core and probably a couple more that have slipped my mind at this time. If you're looking to get rid of them, I wouldn't mind taking your Curse of Monkey Island box to replace mine.

Since I'm a collector I tend to only buy boxed games, specially if old.

Wait for 5p (or you countries' equivilant) listing day on ebay and try your luck. You might sell one of the boxes for more than you think.

I figure the boxes are only worth a pretty penny IF there is a game inside. If not, it's just...paper.
