Black Mirror... Oh, those loveable Gordons! (SPOILERS)

I've just been playing the Welsh levels of The Black Mirror for what seems like the eight hundredth time, and something slightly unsettling just leapt out at me. Chances are this has been pointed out before, but in my defence I couldn't find a reference in the forum search. So anyway -

Whilst Eleanor is sitting at the piano, Samuel is able to view a portrait on the wall and remark that "This is whatshisname Gordon - Eleanor's father".
I can't recall the name, but apparently he was of Gordon blood... A piano virtuoso apparently.

Later on, we visit Eleanor's husband, Richard. Before we meet him, we are able to view a newspaper clipping describing his past glories as a young scientist, where he is referred to as "Richard Gordon". Samuel is rather impressed that they have a famous chemist in the family.

So... Eleanor and Richard are both from the Gordon clan? How, er... cosy! I do hope they're second cousins or something equally legal. Although on the other hand this may explain where Samuel gets his odd behaviour and episodes of paranoia from. Bet he's got webbed toes, too.

I probably wouldn't have pointed this out had I thought it was intentional, but I do get a strong feeling it's the result of an oversight by the developers. In any case, now we know why most of the characters speak and react so slo-o-owly... There's a lot of inbreeding going on amongst the family Gordon.

It's only referred to as inbreeding when commoners do it.
In the case of the Gordon family it is referred to as pedigree.

Or perhaps they're just being considerate in not allowing those dodgy Gordon genes to spread any further? Very noble of them, I must admit. ;)

Much about Black Mirror was disturbing, like how I laughed when that annoying kid died because I was aware I would never have to hear a voice more annoying than Samuel Gordon

I haven't played it myself, but yes, I understand how many find Gordons to be quite lovable.

What about that guy from Ni.Bi.Ru.?
He managed to say everything in the same perky manner, even lines like "they killed him, and now they are trying to kill ME!"

Yeah, Vic had the most irritating voice of them all. Regardless, it was really unsettling and creepy when Samuel offered the kid sweets so that he'd talk to him. Come away from that nasty man, Vic.

and then you look at him afterwards and the most helpful and informative thing ole sammyboy can say is "he likes chocolate"
he'd be good describing a criminal to the police wouldnt he?
no wonder we all beat him to finding out the identity of the murderer...

Yeah, the poor guy must really embarrass himself at times. When you originally pick up those sweets in the kitchen, Samuel is staggeringly enthusiastic about them: "I like these best! Chocolate sweets from Switzerland with Almond in the middle. I have ALWAYS liked these!"

Unfortunately, when he later offers them to Vic and the kid asks if they're chocolate, Samuel looks even blanker than usual and replies: "Er... I don't really know".
Man, with a memory like that, you can sort of forgive the guy for 'forgetting' he killed and horrifically mutilated half a dozen people, huh?

Oh, there's just NO emoticon that quite conveys how much I cracked up laughing at that. :D

"In this thrilling installment of the Gordon family history, we learn that Samuel was actually the product of a hushed-up forbidden tryst between Victoria and Bates.
The extreme exhaustion of keeping such a terrible secret explains why Bates spent the duration of the first game staring at the kitchen sink doing nothing in particular, whilst Victoria could manage nothing more strenuous than sitting in the lounge and clasping her hand to her forehead occasionally."

I can't wait!

Of course, Zombies usually prefer eating brains, but I imagine they're in short supply around the Black Mirror manor.
