For me A Vampyre story is the most promising adventure game of the last years .
It can only be compared in my mind with sam n max 2 maybe but BEFORE it got cancelled.

A Vampyre story seems so much more original than some other titles out.

I'm not gonna get too excited until they can actually name who the publisher is...

That's a very black and white statement. It's seems to be saying that someone who would play Al Emmo wouldn't like a game with more advanced graphics and vice versa. That could be true for a few people but there are many, many, many open minded people who play adventure games that will play many types - the nostalgic games, the new games, the weird games. I am thoroughly enjoying the Al Emmo demo and I have a feeling I will probably like A Vampyre Story. Do you have a category for someone like me?

Well put. Of course you can probably enjoy Al Emmo without being a "adventure gamer trapped in a time spiral" but it´s production values don´t belong to a $30 commercial game coming out in 2006. Sorry.

EDIT: Oh and lets go back to A Vampyre Story.

Still, Al Emmo (judging from the demo) had way above average humor.... I might even say... good humor, that was actually funny.

As for Vampyre Story, let's just hope it's a serious publisher this time.

I think Metronome does have a publisher of some sorts, as they announced the game for 360 also. But still, tis a pain the the arse that that game is a long way off too.

Um. All aspects of Al Emmo are of a high and professional quality. What is the issue with its production values?

Do we actually know anything about it other than the pretty pictures we've seen?

Pretty pictures are enough to tell me how the game will look and roughly that it won't be another cliche fairy tale.

Let me quote myself:

Nice coloring of backgrounds.

I liked the narrator. No, really!

Press esc to skip walk animations-nice touch.

Nice sierra-esque interface. No need to reinvent the wheel (Inventory a bit

clunky though....oh wait, that´s a con).

Cons:

The perspective of the backgrounds is all wrong. Just look at the first screen after the intro to see the artist really needs some perspective lessons.

Horrible walkcycle of Al. Gets even worse when he runs. I know animation can be hard but this is a commercial game so we should expect more quality.

Resolution way too low for a 2006 game. I suspect it has something to do with the limitations of ags.

3D cutscenes from 1995.

Al´s voice is the most irritating voice I´ve ever witnessed in a game - adventure or other. It´s a shame because I liked the other voices I´ve heard so far in the game. I really need a option to shut poor Al up permanently.
.................................

I really, REALLY wanted to like this game. But in this state it´s a no-no for me and my wallet.

Sorry guys

I didn't even notice any horribleness of Al's walking or running. I'm glad I play games slightly ignorant of the intricacies of their production - I think I enjoy them more.

As far as I know, not only they never did announce it, but also actually denied the 360 rumour.

So it will be "much more original" because...?

So, where in the pretty pictures does it say it's not another cliche fairytale?

Or, I'll make it easier for you, where in the pictures do you find anything that's NOT a cliche?

Having the main character a female Vampire for starters...

All of the "poor Metronome" lines are funny. People were saying the same thing about poor Vampyre and then out of the blue a publisher is announced. Actually, it isn't out of the blue. The cat was let out of the bag weeks and months ago on the official forum along with all kinds of juicy info. on exactly what they're trying to do(technologically) with the title. It's a 3D, 2D game and not in the 2.5D way we're used to. It's being made with a full 3D engine, and they're going to use the "trendy" parallax scrolling fad that we see in a lot fo commercials and music videos these days. Cool, detailed 2D drawings/paintings set in a 3D world with lots of layering. Batman: The Animated Series made heavy use of this technique for their backgrounds back in the early 90s, so I now it will be a fantastic look if executed properly.

As for Al Emmo, there's nothing wrong with it. Someone mentioned something about poor perspective. Sorry, but it's not poor, it's stylized and consistent. It was done that way on purpose and it was done in a lot of old, Sierra titles.

That's as cliche as it gets. Vampires for one....a female protagonist is two(and I'll be she's "strong and independent"...that's 3). There's a comic sidekick....4. Finding her way in the world and not wanting to be what she is(i.e. moping)...that 5 and 6. It sounds a lot like the Sally subplot from A Nightmare Before Christmas.
