Default Demo of "Al Emmo and the Lost Dutchman's Mine" is out!

The Demo of "Al Emmo and the Lost Dutchman's Mine" came on the DVD of a dutch game-magazine (PC Gameplay). Since they haven't posted it yet on their own site, I decided to create a torrent of the demo:

(I hope this works and it's legal....)

Have fun,

Jaap

By the way, the magazine, that treats it as an indie game, gave it 69%.

A summary of their review:
Voices are impressing, and the movies are semirealistic Full Motion Video.
But, they especially dislike the in-game animation.
However, they conclude saying: "The persisting adventurer will definitively discover a nice and elaborate story, with some surprising plot-twists and once in a while a hilarious moment of the sympathic, uberloser main character Al."

I'll wwait for it to go on the official website, I can't be bothered to deal with torrents.

When is the official demo release going to be then?

I guess soon, otherwise they wouldn't have given their demo for on the DVD of the dutch magazine.

Okay, here's the deal. The demo is being "officially" released very soon HERE at Adventure Gamers. A few European magazines got an advanced version, but it wasn't supposed to be released yet.

So jaap, I've removed your link. I'm not sure if it's illegal (it probably is), but it'll be publicly available here soon enough. Incidentally, the demo we'll be running has been updated since the Euro cover mount version, so that's extra incentive to wait.

It was supposed to be a surprise, but hopefully it's still something to look forward to.

I can pretend that you never said anything so it can still be a surprise.

Really? I find that surprising, because I thought the in-game animations were fabulous. (Unless something's been lost in translation and they're not talking about what I think they're talking about.) To each his own, I guess.

I doubt the translation has altered the meaning: in the original dutch review it reads: "zo is de in-game animatie van het hoofdpersonage gewoon zwak", meaning: the in-game animation of the main character is plain weak.
(the animation of the interactive action, i.e. not the cut scenes)
I guess the reviewer doesn't like the AGS engine. I can understand that, if you expect the quality of Monkey Island 3.

There are a lot of detailed animations when Al does certain actions (usually picking up or using a particular object). What I'm wondering is if the reviewer is referring to those, or to his walk cycle in general.

It's a nitpicky point and doesn't matter that much. I'm just surprised they're considered weak because I thought they were some of the nicest touches in the game! Guess I'll have to wait and see how others feel about it. (IIRC there are a couple of these types of actions in the demo section of the game, so hopefully I won't be waiting too long to hear people's opinions! )

I got it - I like it! I don't think the animation is that bad at all. Maybe they should've lowered the amount of frames for their animations a little, but that's nitpicking.
