i care a lot about certain types of adventures especially what category they are put into- as i only play 3rd person point and click adventures.
i actually bought myst thinking it was 3rd person point and click adventure - i played it and stopped half way - it was not my cup of tea - i thought that it was mainly an exploration game with puzzle rather than a puzzle game with exploration. but truly -- i don't particularly care -- as long as they put 1st person exploration adventure game- so i don't have to spend ÂŁ30 quid on it -everythings cool. |

How about calling MYST and the series, Lyric Adventure, as Fairygodmother
says, we cant cut up the pie of Adventure Genre into too many little peices, it is an Adventure.......and it is Lyrically beautiful too. so the Lyric could just be in {} :-)

Basically he's saying that he wants to 'cut up the pie of Adventure Genre into too many little peices'. Because when you call Myst a 'lyric adventure' that's precisely what you're doing. Heh heh....

At least there is, thankfully, no yelling.
Oh - guess I should give my opinion - Myst is a 1st person point and click adventure game with a focus on explorations and solving logic puzzles. For Myst, atmostphere and the visuals - they are everything. It's very light on story - sorry avid Myst fans! I like it a lot - actually I love the game. I'm sort of into the story (the story of Atrus and his family), but I'm not much for the backstory - the story of the D'ni. You don't see much backstory in Myst, but you see more of it in some (not all) of the games in the series. As for games in a series - the other series that comes to mind is the Broken Sword games - a good series with characters that continue from game to game. On the other great adventure game series - how could one forget - Gabriel Knight! |

It's an adventure game. =)
I voted perfect balance. I wouldn't categorize it as interactive fiction. Every game is fictional and interactive, but the phrase IF is used to describe text adventures. |
