Default Dreamfall Movie...

Hey all,

If a Dreamfall movie were made, would you prefere it to be CG, ala Final Fantasy or real life acting?

I don't think it could work as a movie.
The story and dialogue are excellent only when compared with other video games... but compared to actual movies.... i don't think so. It will need some serious re-writing to stand a chance.

Now to answer your question... i really loved Final fantasy but i think that a dreamfall movie would be better with real life acting.

Where does this desire to turn everything into movies come from? I don't understand it. I don't want no Dreamfall movie, no Metal Gear Solid movie, no Pac-Man movie.

I agree with insane. There's a world of warcraft movie planned which is probably going to suck. The final fantasy movies were totally dreadful. Sure the graphics were outstanding, but as a movie I felt I was watching the game FMV sequences.

I did quite enjoy silent hill though, but then I'm a horror fanatic.

I don't want a Dreamfall movie though, that just wouldn't work.

But Dreamfall is an adventure game, so it could work. I'd like to. You know... As long as TLJ and Dreamfall are such a long games.... They could probably make a series, or a 3-hour movies like The Lord Of The Rings lol... But not a CG... I'd like to see a full motion movie w/ a real acting. Yeeea!

CGI I guess. I think a film trilogily would be cool of the Longest Journey.

I think Dreamfall would work really well as machinima... i.e if someone were to take all the cut scenes and dialog scenes from the game and put it together into a video

Nah, I dont think so, if it was something like Half Life 2, but the blank expressions in Dreamfall woulden't do for a movie.

But yeah, a film trilogy with real actors would be great. And sure, there would be need of rewriting some things, but lets face it an adventure game would make a better movie than Doom.

Gabe Newell is my man!

Quote:
Eurogamer: Talking of Hollywood, has anyone from the movie world come up with a decent Half-Life movie script yet?

Gabe Newell: They all sucked!

Eurogamer: In what way did they suck?

Gabe Newell: They're just bad movies - movies that shouldn't get made. I'm a huge fan of movies, I love going to movies and we have absolutely no reason to do it. It's not like they've offered us these giant buckets of cash and said "let us go and ruin your game" [laughs]. They offer you little tiny amounts of cash, so it's like they've not even tried to bribe us to go and make a bad movie. So it's the one thing we're going to hold on to. Unless it's a great movie, unless it's as exciting a movie as the game was a game then it will never get made.

Its true, if people make crap scripts then the movie will be crap. So a HAlf Life or Dreamfall movie would be the next best thing if treated so, not just another Resident Evil.

What would be the point of a Dreamfall movie though? What would be gained from the new medium?

Re-telling the story with proper character expressions, maybe?

Exactly. Prettier visuals? Who really needs that? And especially now, when game engines are capable of delivering moving (even more - interactive!) images of considerable beauty.

Maybe some gamers would like to see their favorite characters portrayed by actual people? I don't get any kicks out of that, but who knows?

Seeing someone's unique take on a familiar IP might be interesting, but I think most fans would want their game movies to be as faithful to the source material as possible.

Or do people see game movies as some proof of this medium's artistic credibility? Mainstream acceptance? I really don't understand it.

Can you folks wanting to see more games made into movies speak up? What is your reasoning behind that? I'm genuinely curious.

Hm, okay. You can accomplish that with some more advanced game engines, but still not to the extent a capable human actor could act it out. Still, is that all?

The story's already been told, you know what's going to happen. Also, there's too much baggage and not enough of a clear direction for the tale to work as a film, and as such it would have to be altered accordingly. This would antagonise fans of the game, while remaining obscure enough to be boring for the uninitiated.

Dasilva, would you say you prefer the way the story is delivered in movies than in most games? Efficient, naturally flowing, dynamic cuts, for instance, as opposed to often padded out sequences with awkward dialog in games?

Except for Tomb Raider (Angelina Jolie) there hasn't been a movie based on a computer game (Resident Evil, Final Fantasy) that did very well at the box office. I don't know how if it would draw a crowd.

Well, it's obvious that Ragnar thinks that Dreamfall's a movie.

At the end of the credits, it says "Filmed on location in Stark and Arcadia" and "No Grubbers were harmed during the making of this..." - I forgot whether it said film or game, LOL. Ugh, that was just so cheese. It's a tired tip-off by now.

Now, let's just imagine that Dreamfall wasn't a game ('cause I'm in the crowd that says, WHY?), and consider what mediums the story would come across well in... Dreamfall wouldn't work as a live action, in my opinion. It would come off as low-budget. I would be willing to entertain the idea of a CG rendition of the story. Another medium that I think Dreamfall would do well in would be a graphic novel.

if you made this into a movie
hollywood will butcher it terribly
bad re-writing for script
they will cut out alot of shit
it will prolly be cheese, and totally not close to the original story.
my best example would be the da vinci code movie. Totally killed
