That's the (relatively) recent BBC rerelease of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

Since the screen mentiones towels I'll assume it's "The hitchhikers' guide to the galaxy".

Is this a remake of the text adventure?

It's the same core game as the Infocom's text adventure.

Graphicked-up by the guy responsible for the 'vector graphics' in the BBC-TV version of Hitchhiker's, no less! Though they weren't really vector graphics, they were simply animations made to look like it.

Has anyone got very far under their own steam? It's been a while since I played the text adventure, but I couldn't get very far at all - at least, not without the distinct impression that I'd missed some important stuff!

I have yet to succesfully leave the Earth.

Previously (in the original text version) I got as far as the Heart of Gold (though sadly without a Babel fish ) so I know I can do better than that.

Hehe, same here. I seem to remember getting part of the way to obtaining a Babelfish, but it seemed so torturous that I was forced to give up and go on without it!

It didn't work out, did it?

The annoying thing is I know it can be done because I'm sure I read somewhere that you can appreciate the Vogon captain's poetry in the game.

Solving the Babel Fish puzzle is like having your soul sucked out with a straw... it causes great mental agony and leaves you with a strangely empty feeling afterwards.

I've beaten the original version, but I need to try this illustrated version at some point. Had the bookmark sitting around for a while.

Peace & Luv, Liz

I got pretty far in the game, mostly because almost all the puzzles I encountered (Save the Babel fish puzzle, which took me about a week) are mentioned in the book. Things like lying down in front of the bulldozer and facing the Bugblatter Beast of Traal were much easier with the book fresh in my mind.

so without movie knowledge one might not get very far at all, especially if one were to ask "what games is that" which might be more useful in this sentence "consult guide about what games is that". which would probably come up with an answer such as:

The guide checks through the Sub-Etha-net database and eventually comes up with the following entry:

This is only one game, and its the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Please insert babble fish for correct english translation of "what games is that"

Thing is, whilst the game allows you to continue without the babel fish,

Spoiler:
appreciating the poetry is required to snag an object needed later on.

Yeah, that was a big issue with a lot of the old Infocom titles. Great storylines but terribly frustrating sometimes.

Movie knowledge? More like radio play, book and TV series knowledge.
