Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Mon 22 May 2006

Spoiler:
I love how Jane Jensen wrote Wolfgang's dialogue in this scene; it's not obvious on a first play-through, but on a second look, it's clear he's saying goodbye to Gabriel before sacrificing himself.

A game that I'd never got around to play. Heard that it was good...

The Gabriel Knight series was easily the best series that Sierra ever produced. Fantastic stuff :).

I remember that the first time we had played this scene with my dad, it wasn't exactly clear what had happened.

Spoiler:
In particular, we were wondering why Gabriel was busy being angry at Tetelo, instead of thinking of Wolfgang, and wondered if she had not killed him, or possessed him, or whatever. Things get clearer when you replay the scene and watch for clues, though. (or maybe we were just dumb)

And has no potential for a come back unless Jensen is back. :\

I found all three of them on an auction site and I still haven't gotten around to play them. Well I started the first one, but wasn't impressed. After reading all these comments the past few months I'll give another try this summer I think ;)

The second one is, in my opinion, waaay above the first. In any case, they have almost nothing in common in the way of gameplay, and it doesn't really matter in which order you play them (I played 2, then 1, then 3, and wasn't bothered), so I recommend trying it out (the third one is very different as well, but not as good).

1 > 3 > 2, actually. :P

You two are gonna get fov mad. :D

More like 1 > 2 > 3, methinks. GK3 isn't a bad game, but it's really quite heavily flawed compared to its predecessors.

Ninth 05-22-2006 12:22 PM

Nah, it's 2 > 3 > 1.

MuyaMan 05-22-2006 12:33 PM

I've played the first one, and really loved it (I mean really, really loved it). I'm now playing the 2nd one, I'm in the 3rd chapter, it seems easier than the 1st, yet I'm sort of stuck there for a while... but the game generally looks great too.
Heard some pretty bad things about the 3rd, you guys say it's worth it?

Yes. It's kinda strange at first, what with the 3D and weird controls, and apparent freedom, but after a while the mood sets in, and in the end it's a worthy part of a very nice trilogy.

2 > 1 > 3, 3 > 1 > 2 and 3 > 2 > 1 are still up for grabs. :D

Loved GK1, couldnt handle the movie format from the second and thought GK3 was average. I'd say Kings Quest is the better series handily.
