whatever happened to valhalla3d?

I'm working on a game that should be the biggest adventure game in the world. So out of curiosity I googled the phrase "biggest adventure game in the world." Google returned just a single result: valhalla3d. Valhalla3d was supposed to be released in 2002. Does anyone know what happened ito it? Was it renamed? Is it still in production?

It's released and everything. Check that page. Downloads.

Never heard of it, though.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks! The link you posted was to Valhalla Classics, but Valhalla3D was linked on the parent site. Although after a minute of waiting the page still hasn't loaded. The pre-release blurb made the game sound like a must-have for adventure fans. So I'm curious to see what happened.

Edit - I spoke too soon. When the page finally loaded it was an old page I had seen before, a "work in progress" screen from 2004. Can I conclude that Valhalla3D was never released? The last interview I saw indicated that the company had invested everything in being world leaders for 3D. My guess is that this was economic suicide because it flung them into a highly complex and fast changing market, pitted against giant companies with deep pockets. I wonder what the latest is on Vulcan? Their web site is incredibly slow, which is not a good sign.

PS thanks for the good luck wish. I would have added a link to some screenshots, but I was advised that it would be better to take the site down and surprise people when the game is actually ready for release.

I remember playing a demo for the rerelease of Valhalla clasics, it was fun and apparently was quite popular when it was first out. also something about a skull song...

http://www.vulcan.co.uk/valhalla3d/index.htm is for the 3D game, says its still in development although that was 2 years ago

They probably played the original Amiga game and decided to try to ignore any spin-off. Seriously, those were some sad games. (Although they were created in AMOS!)

Karmillo 05-14-2006 08:36 AM

I played the free trial when they were making a comeback and thought it was quite good.

and how is this one a spin off? Im not really sure what the whole series is about but it sounds more like this is a sequel set ahead of the time of the original games

I never even heard of it, but I understand that they weren't freeware? Off to Adventure forum, then.

I remember this on the amiga. I always thought it looked pretty awful.

Looking at the newer 3d version...
"theatrical levels of realism never before experienced"? =D
I'm all for supporting independant developers, but when they make statements like that they have to have something to back it up.

Karmillo 05-14-2006 11:37 AM

I think this has been canned since there hasnt been anything on it since 04...

They must have redone the graphics for the classics when rereleasing them cause they dont look that bad

jojo_jinx 03-11-2007 09:34 AM

I liked the first amiga games :) Only played a demo of Fortress of Eve though - the rest I played properly. I thought they looked quite good for the time they were made, although with the sound sometimes I couldn't hear what the characters were saying so it was harder to do some puzzles! The 2D graphics have been revamped a bit in the classics remakes but I still remember them looking similar to that. I was interested in the 3D game but as people are saying it doesn't seem to be getting any further in production...

Huz 03-17-2007 05:54 PM

I'm scared

Sorry about the levels at the start. In the immortal (and almost universally applicable) words of Hobbs out of Beneath a Steel Sky, I thought about REDECORATING redoing it but I couldn't be ARSED.
