Name some really old 90's games you remember fondly
Here's 6 classic, brilliant games that come to mind for me:
Rex Nebular and the cosmic gender benders ( 1992) Realms of the Haunting (1997) This game was pretty long from what I remember. Labrynth of time ( 1993) Another World ( first adventure ever played, also known as 'out of this world') Flashback ( sequel to AW/OOTW) Alone in the Dark |

Isn't "really old 90's games" an oxymoron?

It's like asking to name your favorite songs from the 70's. There weren't many.

To the person who asked about 90's games being old - yeah, we're old (i'm 32 myself, and never thought of the 90's as old until my wife's younger sister mentioned she listened to classic rock - like nirvana).
that said, besides giving my - agreed - to Flashback, i'd add: Myst - started a lot, and sure was something when it first came out. Phantasmagoria 1 (and to a lesser extent 2): Sex! Real People doing stuff! And spooky to boot! My buds and girls used to hang out and sit around while someone played these games and the others watched (sounds so kinky, doesn't it?) Actually, the first 3d Castle Wolfenstein was quite something when it came out. And yes - i've played the apple version, too. |

Ugh.... Rex Nebular? I really disliked that perverted BASS wannabe. You all know that by now though dont you?

Most of LucasArts best games came out during the 90's, same with Sierra. So they're a given.
Another World and Flashback also made an impact on me. Same with Sensible World of Soccer, but seeing as this is in the Adventure sub-forum, it doesn't count. Legend of Kyrandia was great, and all of the Revolution games were excellent, even their first effort, Lure of the Temptress had good stuff going for it. BASS is my personal favourite for nostalgic reasons, but Broken Sword 1 comes close second. Then Lure of the Temptress, then Broken Sword 2. The 90's was what I would call the golden age of adventure gaming. And the first half of it was Amiga's golden years to me. Ironically, because the Amiga officially died in '94. |

Hi everyone.
Games I fondly remember, hmm.. Top of the list would be GK1 - I don't think any other adventure game has given me the same feeling of achievement at solving the puzzles. Loved all the LucasArts games, of course. Broken Sword 1, The Riddle of Master Lu, Shadow of the Comet. Sanitarium for the haunted house sequence. Toonstruck, though possibly mainly for cutscenes. There are many others that I enjoyed at the time, but that didn't make a lasting impact. Outside of adventures, well... Ecstatica, for the joy of being torn to shreds by the world's cutest werewolf. Terminator: Future Shock - never experienced such an immersive environment before. Realms of the Haunting - actually, I've only recently finished this after a 9 year hiatus! (Anyone else think that this would be a great candidate for a remake on the Nintendo Revolution?) The Incredible Machine (what I played of it) - inspired. #6 |

I guess I don't really see the point of this thread. I can think of hundreds of great adventure games from the 90s. I would list them all but what the heck would that accomplish?

1996-2000 was the experimental era in which pretty much all games should be 3D or FMV, both with really crappy results.
Most of the good games in this era was therefore released around 1990-1995. |

Yeah, I don't see the point either. Given that one of the "really old" games was from 1997, this is a time period that includes almost every great graphic adventure ever made, from The Secret of Monkey Island (1990) to Bad Mojo (1996). And games like The Last Express (1997) are recent when you consider that King's Quest came out in 1985 and Zork in 1980.
As for music, the 70s gave us great music by David Bowie, Lou Reed, Pink Floyd, The Stooges/Iggy Pop, T-Rex, The Sex Pistols, Talking Heads, and all the music in Quentin Tarantino films. (That's not even getting into disco, which despite its reputation produced some damn catchy tunes.) The 80s produced The Cure, Joy Division, Siouxie and the Banshees, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, R.E.M., Beastie Boys, U2 and The Pixies. Artists like Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen kept producing great work through both decades. So if you think the seventies were all prog rock and disco, or the eighties all synthesizer pop and poodle rock, you're forgetting an awful lot of great music.
