Yes the Hand of Fate is Kyranida II, and has a great story and lots of fun in it, plus some beautiful screens and great places to explore as the game progresses. The Kyrandia series was based on a origonal story that was developed into the series, and the series never really got the best promotion as it was released, they changed marketing execs about the stage that Hand of Fate was released and they just did not give it all the PR it deserved.
the series is Kyrandia I The Legend of Kyranida (Fables and Fiends) Kyrandia II Hand of Fate Kyrandia III Malcolm's Revenge and they were all released with music and then with voices later on, some of the music is really nice for all the games. These are some of the very best adventure games made, with a nice balance of beautiful scenes, nice character development and story line, and fun puzzles and risks throughout. There is a great article archived on this site at http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,110 by Evan Dickens - posted on May 20, 2002 Enjoy. There are copies on Amazon and E Bay most of the time, and there were some combined releases of all of the games I am pretty sure.

I couldn't resist posting these again. You need to play Hand of Fate!! Or "Kyrandia 2" - one of the most beautiful graphic adventures ever.

I totally agree Eriq, it is such a great game and beautiful screens, you posted some of my favorites too, and the views of the world when she is travelling in the air at the end, and the great "world machine" at the end,
but some of the magical countryside scenes, are beautiful too. Thanks for the psots, and you have a great site by the way, very nice.

i was looking at screens as well and have a question....what's with the european box art for that game? It's such a cute whimsical game, but the art makes it look like the cover of a demonic slasher novel. The box i got was just a colorful box with a hand on it.

There were actually three different boxes for "Hand of Fate"... only ONE was worthy of the game itself. This is the rare big-box US version and is very difficult to come by! The box cover art is a wonderful painting by Rick Parks - in my opinion one of the most talented graphic artists back in the day.

HoF was one of my first pc-games. I got so in love in the nice atmosphere this game had. I live in Norway, and we had that nonsense demonic box art.

The problem with the box art and the lack of and weird promotion of the game at time of release came from a very bad marketing Vice President who was fired or left shortly after HOF was released.....and unfortunately it never recovered the attention it should have had at the time. It is a wonderful game and full of fun, beauty, whimsy and good solid adventure. One of the best ever classics. Glad to see people interested. The music on all the games is nice, my favorite remains the first one of the series, but I do like
Hand of Fate also. Some excellent puzzles in it, tough but not impossible, and they take imagination and perserverance. And the sequence that travels up into the mountains and the magical visionary nature of those screens is just amazing and very inspired!

I can understand the "demon cards" box. They misunderstod the "Hand of Fate" and probably tought it had something to do about Tarot Cards. Hand of Fate = The Hand which tell your fate/future.

Another thing that amazes me with this game, is the short development time. Only six months!
In a Westwood interview from 94, in the magazine PCGamer, it is said that the plans for a fourth game had begun. Guess it got cancelled when C&C became so popular, and EA pulled the strings. |
