Default Reworked Discworld Noir Soundtrack

Hey all,
I have compiled a discworld noir soundtrack from the original files.
What I have done is:

- Editing and singling out tracks that were compiled in a single file
- Made some of the tracks longer by repeating them (some had very nice themes but were very short)
- Faded some of the tracks out to give them a sort of ending (many were build to be repeated again and again)
- Given the rather cryptic original files names new names based on the game-location of the track.

All in all there is 25 tracks. And if you long to hear such classics as 'Saphire's Blues' or 'Samael's Song' download here:

EDIT: new mirror with fixed track-names http://www.fileupyours.com/files/259...Soundtrack.rar

EDIT: The link should now work (follow the link and download): http://www.putfwd.com/argh/soundtracks

And here's a mirror (scroll down to download): http://rapidshare.de/files/13818284/...track.rar.html

Oh and if anyone remember where the included track 'psyarece.mp3' was in the game - please tell me, so I can give it a better name....

Enjoy :-)

That's a great idea! Unfortunately, your link doesn't work for me (I get a nice Error 403).

OK, I'm listening to it now.

Isn't psyarece.mp3 the music that's played when talking to Nobby at the police station? I'm sure I've heard it lots of times in the game, anyway.

You're problably right - I recognized - but couldn't place it.... Oh wait psyarece.mp3 of course stands for Pseudopolis Yard (so you are right). So everyone who downloads please rename psyarece.mp3 to Pseudopolis Yard.mp3 (I'm not about to upload it all again....

hey man, thanks alot for this. I ripped the music from my saved game files a long time ago but I was only able to play it in Media player. So this rocks!

BTW, you don't know anywhere where I can get the music for Discworld 2?

I've tried music rip engines but none have worked for me so far.

Is there a track list order somewhere to place these (erm, at least uh vaguely) chronologically?

I only ask because otherwise my iPod will list the tracks alphabetically which is never all that awesome.

What type of music is this? I haven't played the game and as such don't know what to expect. I won't download if I know ahead of time that it's not going to be something I'll enjoy.

Ah, I guess that noir in the title might have tipped me off. I'll try it out.

I like it. The opening track in particular had a really smooth sound.

I'm glad you liked it. Hmm Discworld two.. - I will check it out. I have a mad plan for taking the midi-soundtrack from discworld 1, rework it with prof. vst-instruments and remix it. We'll see.

I don't think it was ever released as a soundtrack (which is why I made it), so an 'official' track list as such is not existing. But it would problably be possible to work out a somewhat chronological list, if anyone feels like coming with ideas please do - else I'll see what I can do.

If you like the music (and adventure-games) - you should try the game...

Thanks man. I was supposed to do this myself, but I've been busy.

About the track list, there WAS released a soundtrack with some copies of Discworld Noir, and here's the track list (without names - go figure!)

http://www.bysmitty.com/Soundtracks/...cworldNoir.htm

I can probably make something out of this and the other track list by listening. (Yes, I know where to get the original rare soundtrack.)

It would be awesome if you did Discworld 2!

Wow, someone linked to my site. I feel special.

I've never had any luck finding track names to the disc. Where did you find your partial list? The CD soundtrack came with certain german editions of the game I believe. I found my copy on eBay. Frankly, I was a little dissapointed in the music but it's all personal taste.

Nice remix Hermes.

Hehe.. Well, I use that site often actually. It's a nice database for game soundtracks IMO.

I found the partial list by listening to Hermes' mp3s, since he had named them already I got the soundtrack myself, so all I needed to do was listening and sorting

Are you sure it didn't come with a front cover even?

Thanks for the kind words about the site though it unfortunately has fallen by the wayside as my professional and personal life gets busier and busier. I still hope to someday get the 30-some soundtracks added to the list that I never got to. Maybe once the new house is built and I'm settled in....

Okay, so those aren’t official track names? I e-mailed a few of the developers a number of years ago to see if they had an official track list but they didn't reply, the e-mail address didn't exist anymore, or they didn't know. I just gave up and settled for 'track 1', 'track 2', etc.

It must have not come with any sort of sleeve or tray art since if it had, I would have added it to the database entry. I'm a stickler for that stuff but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to dig out the original packaging and double check once I'm off work.

About the track-names, I just named them according to their location and context in the game.

I don't know anything about the released soundtrack - when I made my version there was several things I didn't include. Some were minutes of monster-sounds or just rain with maybe a single pling of something. There was also a version of the Octarine Parrot which was muffled (it played in Saphire's dressing room). Except for the muffleness it was the same. So I have made some priorities in putting together this soundtrack...
Are the unnamed tracks above pieces of music that are decidedly different than the ones I have named?
