Default KGB (aka Conspiracy) - Have you played it?

I stumbled upon this game by accident and will try it out as soon as I have free time. I don't know if this game has been discussed before, but unless if my memory failed me, I think it has been reviewed by AG before. I tried looking for a review of this game on this website, but I can't find it.

Who has played it before? What are your comments? I played it for a good five minutes just for a sneak peek - not bad, for a game that's like over ten years old (it was released in 1991). It captured the feel of Moscow quite well, if I do say so myself, despite the old graphics.

That was the first pc game that I ever bought. One of the last floppy games that a local supermarket sold. I don't have the game anymore, I sold it years ago.

The interface was a little weird, but I liked the game. It might be a bit difficult?

It's actually from 1994 if it has Conspiracy rather than KGB written on the box (added FMV sequences with Donald Sutherland being the only difference between the two that I'm aware of). And it was made by Cryo, long before that name became synonymous with "boredom". They made Dune, which I really liked, about the same time, too.

Please let us know if you enjoy it. I keep stumbling upon "Sold Out" rerelease here but never actually got around to buying it.

Are the FMV sequences of the same quality as in Dune (i.e. 75% black, 25% video)?

In case it was directed at me: I didn't word it too well (as usual, I guess ), but I actually haven't played Conspiracy (or KGB, for that matter), myself.

Well, it was directed at whoever might know. It's just that your post reminded me that I have to sit two meters away from the screen everytime I'm replaying Dune to be able to distinguish what the videos are showing --- and I was wondering if it was the same with Conspiracy (which I have no real intention to play, BTW).

Yes. But the videos are of no consequence. They don't detract from the experience, but they don't add anything either.

It's a great game. Great atmosphere. It starts out all gritty and realistic and at some point gets really bizarre

I remember it was really difficult (but it was one of the first adventures i ever played). Donals Sutherland kept saying "confidence Max, You are a Rukov" (or something like that) when I kept dying in one of the many timed sequences. But it is a great adventure.

Oh this game is 100% fantastic. Hard, yes, but it fills my belly with lots of Russian goodness. Oh man. I am going to go and play it right now.

Not that I remember. But of course, I may have just played the non-FMV version.

In any case, KGB is a great, but extremely unforgiving game. It's sheer complexity is both fascinating and frustrating... and I loved it.

I didn't like it that much, but then again, I played Spycraft before this game...

Oh man, I just tried playing and as soon as I got to Chapter 3 the screen goes all funny and just freezes on me. I was having so much fun, too.

I started playing the disc version years ago, and, well, it just didn't work for me. If I had half a dozen lifetimes ahead of me, I'd consider giving it another try, but as it's not the case...
