Uru rings the 'not dead yet' bell
For those of you who don't run screaming at the mention of Myst, you might find this Letter from Rand interesting, as well as the changes in the "Getting Started" page (Kagi keeys no longer needed), and the new Invitation page
(If you'd like an invite, just holler) |

Thanks for the heads up. Do I get this right, though: is Until URU the same as URU Live just before cancellation, as far as content is concerned?

Coolio! I remember my time in Uru beta... ok, it wasn't the most fantastic time I've spent online thanks to the horrendous netcode... but stair races were fun as was pushing the exploration beyond what Cyan wanted.
Part of the way up the stairs there was a blocked off bit we could break into... remember that? I don't remember seeing it in Uru or the addons. Maybe it is.

I'd like an invite, Eleri. Can you hook me up?
Also, has anyone gotten it to work on 56K? The FAQ says it's not supported, but it doesn't say anything like, "It will make your monitor explode." Can it be done? |

I know a few people who do dial up. It's slow, but not unuseable.
Sent Pony and invite, anyone else? |

Hit me up. May give it a try sometime for nostalgia's sake.
I can't remember my av name on Uru Beta... may be there... no idea! re 56k - for the opening of the beta (I joined in July, maybe June 2003?) I used 56k with no real issue.

Sent sent. There was some vault probelms over the weekend, cause some goober was running around with hacked data. Hopefully it's all better now, and they won't need to do a vault wipe.

Thanks, Eleri! I'll mess around with the graphics settings, that might help avoid lag.

Eleri, I'll definitely look you up when I get it working better. The lag has been a bit off-putting so far. It's fine until I open the KI window, and then I no longer have an actual cursor, just the memory of one. It could just be my connection.
Also, (and this is my problem with every Myst game I've played, no offense intended) I just don't know what's going on. I like exploration and everything, but it always feels like there either isn't any narrative pointing me in the right direction, or, worse yet, there's TONS of story and I'm too dumb to figure it out. It's the same problem I'm still having with Morrowind, even as I near the end of the main quest. So, is there some kind of newbie quest in Until Uru? I barely know how to use the KI right now. Is there a way to "learn by doing"? I know, it's Myst, so I'm not asking for a lot of hints, just something to point me in the right direction. |

Well, if you went through the cleft, that sets up the steps for the other ages. Have you poked at the poles on your island?
