Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World

Hi all.

Just wanted to show you some screenshots of the upcoming demo of the game I am working on. The demo should be available in 2 months tops, so in about a month I'll be looking for some beta testers.

Anyways, here are some shots. No website yet, I've been keeping this project under the radar for some time, but I think now when I have some solid, playable stuff it is ready to be presented to the world.

Can't see anything...

Dale Baldwin 02-08-2006 11:25 AM

That's what you get for using geocities.

I can see them now (couldn't before) - they're cool! :)

The hero is strapping with red hair and a beard. :9

He also has one nipple, and it changes places in each screen shot. Looks like it's just a mirror image, something that doesn't work unless the character is symmetrical.

The backgrounds look great though. I hope there are lots of clickable objects.

Looks Fantastic! And the character probably has more animation, its just probably not finished yet. The BGs look amazing. :)

Now I see too... Very nice! Very Monkey 3, love the pics...

Thank you for your kind comments.

Sorry about Geocities, I'm working things out with Erwin from Adventure Developers, they will probably host Kaptains website.

You are right about animations, the characters are now using mirrored animations. You know, since this is a one-girl project, I concentrated more on gameplay rather than tech/art issues. I just started working on backgrounds, and there are 2 more to be finished. After that I am doing the animations.

Glad you like it.

Ever thought of writing tutorials?

I'm fine with the character animation poses, especially for such a well-drawn amateur production. It wouldn't bother me much at all. It was just an observation I noticed.:) Maybe that could even be an inside joke that carries through the game a few times. Using technical limitations to your advantage for humorous effect, or something like that. Like Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Hello to you too... from one of the girls. :D

It looks very good! I like how the lead character immediately has a very distinctive appearance.

One thing I would do away with though: the obvious MI3 cursor. You've put so much effort into this it'd be a crime to now use any parts of other games. That'll diminish the huge authenticity this thing is already possessing.

eriq 02-09-2006 10:56 AM

Phew! Gorgeous work! Looks like we have another winner!

artwking4 02-09-2006 10:58 AM

The cursor is a bit "piratey" for this game, now that you mention it.

Dasilva 02-09-2006 12:06 PM

Maybe a animated hand? So when you go over a hotspot the hand would close or something like Broken Sword 1/2.

Kaptain Brawe 02-09-2006 12:28 PM

Yeah, thing bothered me when I was posting the images. You see I used a premade interface and I have to change the graphics. Since there will be alot to do with Eastern European countries, and alot of mockery on both the comunism and democracy, I was thinking of using golden star (Kaptain is a Space Police, afterall) that would turn into glowing red star, which could unite both the European Union (The golden star) and old comunist countries (hence the red star). Kinda hard to explain, but most of the story, or better to say, the atmosphere in the game will be simmilar as we see it today, even if it happens in space. Don't wanna reveal much, but you all have strong points, and I must say, a good eye.

Thank you for your kind comments, and spread the word =). When I finish the background I am working on, I'll post it here.

Wow!!
Love the details,
Love the color work,
Love the lighting,
Love the backgrounds in general!!!:D

Advice: Put some light and shading to the character and it will blend much better with the backgrounds :P

Keep it up girl!

Kaptain Brawe 02-09-2006 03:03 PM

As I promised, just finished the 1st draft of the new location, changed the cursor. Hope you like it.

Hehe... It really looks sharp. How long does it take you to draw and color these?

There's something familiar about that character (the face) though. Have you posted a picture of him here or somewhere else before you put these images up? It's probably just the style that reminds me of something that I can't put my finger on. Or Deja vouz!

Starflux 02-10-2006 03:54 AM

'You already'? Anyway, the cursor is much better and more semiotic now! Yes!

Brawe's hands seem a little wonky though. Is that intentional?
