Default Best inventory based puzzles - adventure game...

Okay, so the only adventure games I really like are the ones with Macgyver type puzzles as opposed to alien machinery or slider puzzles like Myst etc. Nothing against those - and I'm considering trying one of the Myst games out, but I really want to find an adventure game out there with good old inventory puzzles.

Some games I have played and really enjoyed are Return to Mysterious Island, Grim Fandango, Gabriel Knight, Day of the Tentacle and Master Lu ...and of course the Lucas and Sierra classics.

What I am looking for is an adventure game with puzzles grounded in the real world, you know? I don't much care for fantasy or space. I just want some good old fashioned inventory puzzles in the vien of Lost in Time....

Also, which Myst should I try considering my taste?

Thanks guys and gals. Great site.

Lost in Time is the only game I can think of.

I guess you might enjoy Still Life... Mostly inventory based...
And then there is And Then There Were None...

None of the Myst games are inventory based. But most 3rd person fans prefer myst revelation.

Recent good inventory based games:
The Black Mirror and Still Life (some myst puzzles included, though), Voyageand the Syberia.
Otherwise, to tap into older games, anything by Legend is great, although you might want to avoid the older ones that have a semi-texual interface, if you're not into that kind of thing. I would especially recommend Callahan's Crosstime Saloon and Death Gate.
There's also the Simon the Sorcerer games, Kyrandia 2, some Zork games (Grand Inquisitor - inventory-based, and Nemesis - Myst "clone"), and... well, that's all for now, but there are a bunch of other great games out there.

The best Myst games in my opinion... the Myst series.
I'd recommend to start with Exile, (Myst 3), knowing that the best two (in my opinion) are Myst 2 - Riven and Myst 4 - Revelation.

Callahans was excellent!! As was Shanara and Death Gate - very clever, plus I like that "hand painted" graphics look. I can't find Zork GI to buy anywhere !!
I was not at all impressed with Syberia 1.

I have not yet tried TLJ - does it have good inventory based puzzles?

Did you play Mission Critical? That's another Legend game.
If you really like puzzles, did you play the Goblins series? I liked the third one a lot.
Also, if I remember correctly, you did play Ween? In this case, and if you liked it, Lost in Time is pretty good, and similar to Ween.

So is that it?

Have I played every good inventory puzzle adventure game out there?

This sucks.

Runaway and RTMI were both recent ones that I enjoyed, though Runaway was a bit illogical at times and RTMI lost it in the end.

Still, I like getting stuck on a really good puzzle, when I know I have every item I need to solve it and just really thinking about it until DING !!

Can somone give me a quick Still Life opinion?

I have played Ween, Goblins and Lost in Time ...

All really fun, but Lost in Time is my favorite - real Macgyver action there.

Oh well.
Did you play Discworld? That should keep you busy for weeks.
And what about Simon the Sorcerer?

As for recent games... Moment of Silence has a lot of inventory puzzles, a nice story, and some pretty graphics. Just don't get it if you can't tolerate clumsy controls/cameras and a lot of backtracking.

Hmmm, I've never heard of Moment of Silence. I'll need to read up on it.

Other folks are recommending Zork GI - which I can't find anywhere.

I bought it for 1€ not long ago, and so did someone else here (can't remember who), so it shouldn't be that hard to find. You could try ebay...

EDIT: And yes, Zork GI is a must play. The fact that you can use magic is reminicent of Death Gate, even though the game has its own special atmosphere.

Cool thanks - I'll have to track down a copy.

Death Gate was a damn good game - as was Shanara ( similar ).

I would think that any of the 3rd person perspective adventure games would suit you, as they all tend to have some form of inventory management. I agree the discworld games are fun, obviously the Gabriel Knight series also stands out. I definitely recommend Still Life and to a far leser degree Post Mortem. Then there are teh TEx murphy games and the original traitor's gate has a ton of inventory management and some puzzles that are both good and annoying (maze).

I bet you haven't. Nobody has.

How about... the Feeble Files, the Broken Sword series, the Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes, Duckman, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Rent-A-Hero, Stupid Invaders , Tony Tough and the Night of Roasted Moths, UFO's aka Gnap, the Gene Machine, Touche: The Adventures of the Fifth Musketeer, Sanitarium, Noctropolis...

PS: Zork GI is inexpensive and easy to find on ebay, gametz and online shops. Play it and love it!

I second Feeble Files (unplayable on XP so far, but should be some time in the future), Sanitarium and Noctropolis (especially Noctropolis). Those are thre incredible good underdogs.
