Yep, sometimes a single line comment can say something just as well as a 1000 word analysis.

It's vay overrated in my opinion, but still great. Not the greatest adventuregame ever made (and no, Grim Fandango aint either) but fun enough to play at least two times over.

I don't think TLJ is the greatest adventure ever made. It's good, i enjoyed it, but there are other games that are far better.

Ditto, then again I don't find any adventure game "the greatest" (I don't think it's been made yet, or ever will) but it's close. The thing about TLJ is that it was refreshing and very well polished - good dialogue, very nice graphics, likeable protagonist with equally likeable voice an otherwise great voice-acting overall and a decent story that keeps you playing. Only a few adventure games have equalled it in these regards, especially in recent years, which is probably why it's gotten critical acclaim from a lot of gamers.

Possibly if I were to start the topic today I would say instead of greatest, '
one of the most unique, artistic, intriguing, or immersive.....something other than a super superlative. I was in the first enchantment when i started the thread, and really was very moved by the beauty of some of the scenes, the very different feeling and flavour ...something like when I first read Tolkien's in 1963, a very special sort of "self contained realness" and a flavour of a wind blowing from a place far far away yet very immediate and sympathetic.....

There is much to enjoy in LJ, and to savour, and I am so glad that Ragnar and all the great crew at FunCom made it

When it comes to adventure gaming greatness, TLJ and Shadow of Destiny both come to my mind.

LOL. Yea me too. Loved Longest Journey. Not quite as magical as the LucasArts games in my opinion. Though definitely not one to miss!

The best one in my opinion is probably Monkey Island 3. Also Day of the Tentacle was quite a masterpiece.

ok,
I'm in, after reading 8 pages... nice thread by the way

but, talking about games...

I just played and finished TLJ (last month), after having the game for 3 years, reading a lot about it (how good it was) and about the sequel... so.. I finally installed and played..

I always liked adventure games, I own some retail Lucasart games (GF, MI3, FT, The DIG, S&M <disks and cd version>...)

Ok, it's true, I liked TLJ, nice gfx, nice history, and yes, bring me back memories from my adventure times... I'm waiting for Dreamfall (a lot!!!)

I really enjoy adventure games... but I stoped playing them.... after playing TLJ.. I think i'm back.

After TLJ, played Syberia I and II (niceeeeeee), right now I'm playing Runaway, after that I'm with Still Life waiting

I think i will get Gabriel Knight 1 2 and 3 and Broken Sword 3 (have 1 and 2 <portuguese version>)... I remember playing GK2, and no, i didn't like the FMV game.... but gonne give another chance.

But about the thread, for me.. the BEST one, was Grim Fandango, what a game.. what history... the scenarios... the music... the romance... the atmosphere... still today, me and one friend, we talk dialogues from the game... I think i will replay the game

thank you guys... for the memory

Longest Journey is a wonderful game but certainly not the best adventure game. Personally I'm a fan of the Gabriel Knight series, more specifically, Gabriel Knight, Sins of the Fathers.

There is something about a game that uses existing world lore (commonplace lore) that makes a game that much more compelling to play. And games are set in our modern era, or a near-future era, it makes the lore in the story even more engaging. Deus Ex did this wonderfully, making it an absolute joy to play.

Hi Saulob, and welcome, glad you have enjoyed the thread, there have been some great discussions here, and many great ideas and things shared. I am glad you are enjoying adventure games again, and sounds like you have good ones to look forward to, Anachronox is one that I have wanted to try myself but havent gotten yet, Sounds great ...hope you enjoy it, and Dreamfall will indeed be setting a new standard I think, great to have it to look forward to!

Cheers

Chris
