Default Ankh German demo (with a tweak, also runs in English & French)

...has popped up, if anyone's interested. Gamershell has it, for example.

It's only two screens short, so hard to judge the full game on this base. Graphically it seems to be lovely, reminiscent (especially the first location) of Sands of Time, but obviously with a more comedic touch. Funny cutscenes. Nice, simple inventory puzzles, though the last one is pure guesswork (Thankfully on a confined space and with little inventory, but still. I hope I was just missing some background info from the full version).

I obviously need to learn German. Lots more demos that way...

You can set the language of the demo to English by just changing the config file (Ankh.ini) so it reads language=0. Even the voices are in English.

Also, if you change it to language=2, you can play it in French.

Which makes me wonder how they did to put three different speech packages and a whole (although short) demo in only 65Mb.

Great how the language can be changed. I was playing the german version earlier and did not understand much. It reminded me of another game when he was diving and opening that chest and hearing that little part of music. Very funny. Is there anything to do on the surface other than talking to the boat guy? Now if only the german keepsake demo would have a language changing trick then I would understand that better.

Thanks for the info Kelmer! Have you discovered it by yourself?

You can give him something to convince him to take you back.

There is a kind of a big doorway at the back of the area when you get from the water. Anything that can be done there? I was hoping to go a little further in that area.

Nope, someone at the forums of my website pointed that. I only figured out that using the Link "Ankh Demo - Minimal" you got to play the game in French, with the lowest resolution.

That could get someone offended, taking the French language as a Minimal setting

Does anyone know if this trick works with the German full version? I'm tempted to import if it does, rather than wait around for the probably-never-going-to-happen UK release...

Tell me about it, no adventure games ever get published in the UK, why is North America always so lucky?

Anywya, I doubt it would work because the game would be twice the size it would need to be.

1. Lack of adventure-friendly and reliable publishing partners
2. Low sales compared to the size and importance of the market (Europe's largest)
3. Low interest in the print press

Why do you say that? BHV already has it on their website, with an estimated January release. It's listed on Amazon UK, too.

It's not confirmed yet, but Telltale might be putting it up on their Telltale Now distribution thing in addition to any boxed version being published by someone else. At the Adventure-Europe developer conference, they said they just have to make sure all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed. Legal stuff like that, I guess.

Thanks for the heads-up, that was a fun 10 minutes. Underwater scene ws great. Takes me a while to get used to having the right mouse button as primary.

Like the original Bone demo though, the thing ends before we're introduced to any sort of beginnings of a story

Was it just me that thought Ankh's english was vocie very poor. And that the lip-syncing in the cut-scene were terrible

BTW my first post on this forum

Wow, it actually runs on my computer. I'm not sure how, but it does (if I set the options all the way low). I'm really excited about that because I was never planning on getting this game since I knew my computer couldn't handle it (even my new one).

I'm stuck at the first screen (yes I'm dumb), but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

The control scheme is kind of awkward how you use the right mouse button. That will take some getting used to.

Also, I found a mistake in the demo. If you right-click on the chest after opening it, he says something like "I need to find a way to open it" even though it's obviously already open.

This demo was so-so in the gaming department. But the graphics and sound were a home run. Looking forward to playing it based on the glowing reviews. Can't wait to read the adventuregamers.com review.

Is it just me or does the tune that plays when you open the pirate chest sound like the monkey island music?
