TLJ: Adventure Game of the Year Edition query

I bought this off Amazon (new) thinking it was just the game in a jewel case, but it actually was the game in one of the new, small boxes! But, the game only game with two orange-y CDs; an install and a play disk. I still have my original (scratched) disks, all four of them, and the manual is kicking around some where. Is the AGOTY edition monkier a codeword for "Cheap-o packaging" or did I get an incomplete set? Thanks!!

Would you like a TLJ version with 8 discs, in a shoe box, and a manual you'll never use but has cost you 20% extra?

The manual for The Longest Journey happens to be well written and nicely illustrated. I for one appreciate the effort put into it.

I'm pretty sure the GOTY edition used new compression techniques to get the game down to two CDs.

I started a similar topic like this a while back. And yes the 2CD version is better because it uses new compression technology and well as being patched and updated.

Sadly, printing costs for a manual would completely negate any earnings made from a budget release, so the manual has to be done as a PDF on the CDs. It's a nice manual, and as someone who actually reads them, my heart is bleeding

That was also the main reason for a release on 2 CDs: Printing and packaging costs. That it ended up getting a lot of bugfixes and compatibility fixes was a nice bonus
